It really is so weird that it’s called “antisemitism.” Bigotry against Muslims is called islamophobia so why aren’t we calling bigotry against Jews judeophobia? A new word is warranted anyway because the old one doesn’t mean fucking anything after being used and abused to all hell by isreal. And referring to Jews as “Semites” frankly feels othering in and of itself.

antisemitism (the word) developed in a purely european context, before the recent muslim immigrants arrived. pretty much the only muslims in europe were in the balkans and western europeans didnt give a shit about that. the muslims of spain were long gone by this time, force-converted, killed or chased away.

until the arrival of muslim immigrants in europe in the last ~70 years, the representatives (in the mind of the averag european chud) of the despotic/untrustworthy/backwards orient were european jews. they were the stand-ins for muslims too. this is why some of the crusades never reached the levant, but ended up just doing pogroms on european jews.

this is why antisemitism doesnt make sense etymologically, but that’s normal for words. we have lots of words that dont mean what their etymology would imply.
