So I have an Nvidia 2080Ti Graphics card. Every time I boot up Naldur’s Gate 3, I receive a warning that:
The installed Nvidia graphics drivers (535.98) is older than our recommended version so you’ll have the best experience.
When I run nvidia-smi
I can see that my current version is: 535.95
.
When I look at the Nvidia site for my card, I can see the latest version here is only up to version 535.104.05
I installed Nvidia through my package manager by adding the necessary repositories following this guide.
I have seen akmod
have updates to it when I have updated through my package manager before, but I am confused as to why the latest driver for my card is lower than the one Baldur’s Gate 3 recommends, why I can’t even update to the supposedly latest available one on Nvidia’s site anyway, and why on my Windows install, there aren’t any driver warnings when launching BG3, but there are on Linux when they should, in theory, be able to update to the same driver.
TYIA for any help.
(P.S yes, I know Nvidia and Linux sucks, but I built this machine long before I thought about daily driving Fedora. Next Graphics Card update will be AMD, but stuck with Nvidia for now till I can feasibly afford it).
TL;DR: Baldur’s Gate 3 complains I am not using the latest driver, which I installed through my package manager which can’t find any updates for akmod
and the Nvidia page states the latest driver is different from the one I have installed _and_ different to the one BG3 recommends.
