Hey there,

I’m new to the fediverse and would like to experiment as a content creator. I’d like to understand if it is designed to support single-user instances or if I should join existing servers.

I plan to take a gap year and travel around creating short documentary videos along the way. My goal is to use:

  • Peertube to host videos
  • Mastodon for micro-blogging, sharing photos, promoting the videos and linking out to my website
  • A website for long-form text and embedding the Peertube videos

I have an existing VPS that I barely use and want to take this opportunity to learn more about self-hosting.

My questions are:

  • Does it make sense to run a single-user instance of Peertube and Mastodon for the above use-case?
  • How can my content be discovered/federated by larger servers?

Thanks in advance for your help ✌️
