I read this article to get the jist of the story.

The author admited to using an LLM to insert a sentence in his book to play with the reader and used a bot to do research.

There is also a tirade on how the technology should not be ignored but it reads like the average known discourse by the usual figures behind it.

It feels cheap. This is a career author, relenting his life long effort to develop a talent and an art form to a machine.

On several writing Discords, admitting that you used AI to perform research is just as bad as using AI to write your entire novel.

They will read this admission from this author and conclude that he violated the spirit of writing by using AI for anything.

Writing is going to become a very polarized subject. And it should.

Nowadays, it is the most accessible art form we have. Anyone can get a piece of paper and a pencil and write a tale, just from their imagination.

I can’t understand the ease with which people have given up on doing something by their own effort.

Can those people provide evidence of their Kagi subscription or the book slips from their library?

Using Google to search shouldn’t be allowed since it’s all AI now.

Change web search engines and turn off the LLM functions and that ceases to be an issue; Google hasn’t been a valid search engine for the last ten years, with all the publicity links it put on search pages.

Really hope this doesn’t turn into a “black guy gets punished due to a false accusation of AI use, old white guy gets away with it after freely admitting it” type situation…
