The 7840u processor seems to have a problem with high power consumption in idle. Tested on 2x HP EliteBook 845 G10 with 7840u (15W TDP)…
I also read several reviews on the already available 7840u, always was unexpected poor battery life. Basically, according to what I’ve researched. Battery life is more or less identical to HS processors.
Too high idle power consumption may be behind the problem. I tried to test for the lowest possible consumption. I turned off completely all devices and functions in the BIOS (camera, sound card, usb ports…) in Windows 11 turns on airplane mode. Connected an external 1080p monitor. Consumption was about 5W in this mode (blank black desktop, antivirus off, all windows services). Also with the screen completely off, the consumption was 5W. In Cinebench R23 single thread testing, the consumption was about 6W.
In the same testing on the old Ryzen 4800H, the consumption was 1.5W-2W.
