I’m considering upgrading the two 32 GB ECC RAM SoDIMMs in Dell precision 3460, Core i7 13700 to total 96 GB. The system however is advertised for maximum 64 GB RAM.

Can I replace them with two nonbinary 48GB RAM modules (ECC or not)?

In other words, can any 32GB RAM module be replaced with 48 GB? Or perhaps the motherboard or firmware cap the RAM for stability?
