“Thou shalt not worship false idols”, it’s like number three and/or four of the basic rules of Christianity.

I think they need to reevaluate the definition of “worship”

“Rules for thee but not for me” you can bet they’d be screeching about worshipping false idols if the Dems treated Biden the same way.

These clowns aren’t Christian and never have been

Why would you claim them not to be Christians? They seem very clearly Christian to me. I can’t really see a non “no true scotsman” reason to say they aren’t, and especially that they never was.

The theology may have evolved, but to say they were never Christians would be unjustified, even if I agreed they had stopped being Christians due to this.
I do however not think that is the case either. I agree that their veneration for Trump often becomes pretty much worship. That however doesn’t mean they aren’t Christian. He seems to take a status in their theology ranging from a saint-like figure to prophet and even the second coming of Jesus. Christians started out as a jewish sect and only over time became a distinct religion. I think this Trump worship is similarly a Christian sect that could potentially become a destinct religion. I just haven’t been convinced it has happened yet.

The really funny thing is that the Evangelical Christians say that atheists like me worship ourselves, or money, or pleasure.

So they understand their religion’s concept of idolatry, but only as a cudgel to attack others with; they’ll never direct that criticism at themselves despite the accusation actually being true in that case: they revere power more than anything.

Just wait until all of those churches supporting Trump start losing members to Trump when he starts his own church, which is inevitable at this point.

All their ‘tithe’ revenue will start going to Trump.

The russians did that over 25 years of bot farms and intentionally targeting rural areas assisted by criminal elements. Consistent priming from those entities allowed Trump to do what he has done.

This isn’t magic. Trump isn’t a genius. It was planned foreign attacks for decades.

    This is just the result.

Wanna see it in real time? The russian bot farm here mostly inhabits lemmy.ml and their primary tactic is attacking the democratic candidate from the “left”. The droves of anti-biden comments are the disinfo campaign in real time. We live in history.

With a electoral system like Ranked Choice voting, people would feel safe to vote for whomsoever they wish, as their vote would still be counted even if their preference didn’t win. Then people could vote for whichever leftist party they prefer, while still counting their vote against the republicans.

Just search for videos on FPTP voting if you want an explanation on how and why the spoiler effect exists.

Electoral reform is possible in each individual state (for now), we dont need federal reform! Maine and Alaska have already passed electoral reform.

Republicans are moving to make alternative electoral systems illegal in their states. Republicans want to protect first past the post voting. Why would you want to use the same voting system republicans want?

More political parties means a higher percentage of the population is represented by their choices in the voting booth. More people involved in the electoral process, more people engaged.

Its a win win win all around for not just the people, but also for the democratic party. More people voting means more democratic votes. The numbers dont lie. So what’s the hold up blue states?

Some day we will be able to vote for who best represents our interests. We won’t need to grovel on our knees, begging for representation in government. We won’t need to wait for the Republican party to stop existing.

We can do it right now.

Consider starting a campaign to change how we vote in your own state! It seems you are concerned people will break away from the Democratic party. you should be working towards fixing the spoiler effect in your state instead of demanding people to remain unrepresented in government.

Force our representatives to compete with fresh outside ideas. We deserve the best representation, not excuses.

Is there any evidence of that? I believe Lemmy has always had a rather large percentage of actual communists and whatever other flavor of leftist because of the nature of what lemmy actually is, a much larger percentage than reddit refugees (like myself) have been used to seeing normally. They all seem to talk in a similar way (the whole “everyone not them is a lib” thing) and do use the genocide joe thing a lot, but I honestly believe at least the majority of them are real.

This was going in the 90’s when Russia had way too many domestic proglems to care about the west. Reagan started this with his satanic panic in the 80’s and Newtgrinch made it permanent in the 90’s.

And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.

      — John 2:15–16

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

      — Matthew 21:12–13

"Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

        “All men are created equal”

        Is slave state

Always has been a piece of shit, but we don’t always have to be one in the future. How can we be less then 100% shit for the first time in our existence? Getting our hands on the wheel and steering away from this cliff we are all hurtling towards.

And you can’t have your hands on the wheel while riding in the backseat. We need electoral reform so we can get rid of First Past The Post voting.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

In this moment, Mr. Trump’s audience is his congregation, and the former president their pastor as he delivers a roughly 15-minute finale that evokes an evangelical altar call, the emotional tradition that concludes some Christian services in which attendees come forward to commit to their savior.

Mr. Trump’s ability to turn his supporters’ passion into piety is crucial to understanding how he remains the undisputed Republican leader despite guiding his party to repeated political failures and while facing dozens of felony charges in four criminal cases.

Last week, days before Easter, he posted on his social media platform an infomercial-style video hawking a $60 Bible that comes with copies of some of the nation’s founding documents and the lyrics to Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless the U.S.A.”

Instead, the Trumpian flock is more likely to describe him as a modern version of Old Testament heroes like Cyrus or David, morally flawed figures handpicked by God to lead profound missions aimed at achieving overdue justice or resisting existential evil.

“He’s definitely been chosen by God,” said Marie Zere, a commercial real estate broker from Long Island who attended the Conservative Political Action Conference in February outside Washington, D.C. “He’s still surviving even though all these people are coming after him, and I don’t know how else to explain that other than divine intervention.”

The apparent effectiveness of such tactics has made Mr. Trump the nation’s first major politician to successfully separate character from policy for religious voters, said John Fea, a history professor at Messiah University, an evangelical school in Pennsylvania.
