I just moved from kbin.social, but I can’t find / subscribe to these magazines:

Any help appreciated!

Also, why are some magazines (on lemmy.world and others) incomplete (e.g. @belgium@lemmy.world)? I get the message: “This journal is from a federated server and may be incomplete.”

Can anyone explain to me why the federation is only partial and what I can do to remediate this?

Magazines only bring in new content once there is a local subscriber. They don’t populate older information. As far as I know, that’s true of the entire fediverse (when I scroll down on remote mastodon users, eventually it gives me the message “Mastodon does not pull from remote instances, browse more on the original instance” or something to that effect), but it does seem like Lemmy might do something in regards to grabbing some entries via outbox or something, I saw someone post about it recently, we have an open issue to implement outbox so assuming that gets done, there could potentially be population of older content for at least pins at some point https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin/issues/485

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by can’t find / subscribe, can you give more details? The thunderbird one wasn’t there, so I just searched for it to add it, but the others were

    !LifeHacks@kbin.social !lifeprotips@lemmy.ml !thunderbird@lemmy.world !belgium@lemmy.world

To add a magazine you simply search for it, e.g. https://kbin.run/search?q=!thunderbird%40lemmy.world though that will show it now since I already did it.

Magazines need at least one local subscriber to receive any updates, this is true of Mbin as well as /kbin and lemmy (as far as I know). It’s a little hard to tell when a magazine has a local subscriber, we lost that info when we started using real subscriber numbers and unfortunately it hasn’t been added back in a way that is accurate to whether there are any or not.

I get the impression from your posts you might be using the interstellar app rather than the web so it might be a bit different there, I’m not super familiar with it so not sure how to search for magazines

At least on the website, the search for adding a magazine is also different than the search that filters on the magazine list page, confusing, I know, not sure if the app has that distinction

Thank you! I managed to subscribe to them from the Interstellar app now. Not sure what went wrong on the web page search.
