Depends if I’m passenger or crew. Working a ship sounds like a way bigger pain in the ass than my job.
You’re the guest of honor who tries to interpret an ancient treasure map that you inherited from a distant relative.
You had me at Y.
You had me at Trans.

Actually, it’s pretty alright! Being below deck during rough weather sucks and the morning after shore leave ain’t great either. But it wasn’t a bad gig.
How am I supposed to traverse Antarctica (a continental land mass) in a big wooden ship? Does the ship have wheels and sleds? Because Antarctica is a desert. A cold one, yes, but still a very-much-hostile-to-sea-faring-wessels desert.
Someone will have to get out and pull
You ever seen the movie Fitzcarraldo?
No, have you seen Bunganormous?
Just wait a decade or two.
Antarctica is still a landmass. With mountains and shit.
Details my friend, details, we’ll figure it out on the ship.
Maybe the melting ice will create navigable rivers?
I’m questioning the logistics of dragging ships along across the antarctic mountains, but as long as I am one of those riding the ships instead of dragging, I’m game.
Why does this feel relatable
Because it’s a mission with purpose. Real purpose, not the “hit that deadline” purpose.
It’s an urge deep within us all.
Transatlantic, yes, but not transantartic. I do not like cold.
So we gotta be trans to go on the trip?
I mean if that’s the price… 😂
Yeah, I think so. And then I guess they make you reverse it on the return trip. Maritime rules are weird.
I will trust you on that. I’m only well-versed on Bird Law.
When they put it back on, can they put a bigger one back on instead?
I don’t see why not
My roommate went to Omega Mart a few days ago and all she got me was this pack of chewing gum and maybe covid. Hopefully not the covid, but she’s got it right now. :/
Edit: got the covid too.
Amazing.
I love this so much. Did you make it or just have it lying around? It seems so niche I’m inclined to believe you made It lol
It came from Omega Mart, which my roommate visited when she was in Las Vegas a few days ago, I just took a picture of it.
It doesn’t even have to be wooden. Just give me an excuse to wear a big wool turtleneck sweater and a captain that looks this picture of Earnest Hemmingway and I’ll do whatever
Can I also wear a big scarf while I gaze contemplatively off the port side?
It would be weird if you didn’t
Would probably still be warmer than some of the offices I’ve worked in.
Very nice. Difficult choice between that and an Airship
Cool! Looks like that’s a few years out yet, though.
It’ll give you time to save up the $200,000 usd
12 grand for the 22 day trip, before the fares to Argentina. Not too shabby.
The fuck I would.
Yeah I know the success rate of those things and I’m not a huge fan of long pork
Shit I just want the office job so I can quit being killed for nearly minimum wage. Plus I hate the cold.
I just want food service workers to be treated like actual people. I love cooking food but between corporate and customers I’m at a limit 😮💨
Same here. Never been in food, but retail is definitely it’s own nightmare. Here’s hoping for the both of us.
Have you tried the ribs or belly? Goes well with a bottle of Chianti 👌
I don’t know if, knowing what I know now about how Shakleton’s trip went, I would sign up for an expedition on the Endurance.
If you sign up for an expedition and things go wrong, you better hope it’s with Shackleton.
If I remember right, he hammered nails through his boots to make primitive ice cleats, hiked out of there with a small group to safety, then immediately returned with help to rescue his men. Dude was a badass.
Their journey is so unbelievable. He and a few of his men sailed 800 miles, essentially in a lifeboat, in the worst sea on earth. When they landed on South Georgia they were on the wrong side and had to hike over the impassable mountainous island to the encampment.
Their expedition ship sank in the middle of the ocean and yet he still managed to get all of his crew members back to safety alive.
The sea is a cruel mistress me hearties 🏴☠️

As long as we have access to modern medicine I’m game!
Here’s an orange
