Well, since Threads users can now see replies to their posts from Fediverse users AND they’re public, I think it’s as good a time as any to ask this again.

Have you blocked Threads?

This is for single users. If you’re an admin that has blocked it for your entire instance, it’s okay to answer as well, but I would like any users of those instances to also answer yes and for those that do not agree with that decision reply below with your thoughts, please!

Thanks!

PS. This is not a debate. I’m not looking for reasons why Threads should be blocked. Those types of replies will be completely ignored. We all know the pros and cons by now.

    @Gullible@sh.itjust.works thanks for replying, friend.

    I have not either yet.

    This latest update gives me hope that it’ll eventually happen, but they are going slower than a fucking sloth…🤦‍♂️

    I’m waiting to see if they’re gonna try to pull some asshattery.

    I know what’s theoretically possible with AP and it’s nothing that I can’t undo by blocking their ass, so I’d like to see them try to fuck this up…

    • Speaking seriously, my instance has already preemptively defederated from threads so there’s nothing left to do for me. Given your username, I’m guessing you’re running your own masto instance so you’re set as well. Really, there’s nothing sneaky to be done. If they decide to make an instance and download all of the personally identifiable information on the lemmyverse, there’s nothing that can be done about it. I know far less about how much personally identifiable information leaks to other masto instances, but if it’s similar, building an advertising profile and ignoring mastodon proper may well be the strategy.

        @Gullible it cannot be done. They can only get anything that’s already public on your profile, nothing more. Emails and IP addresses aren’t shared, and no advertising cookies are ever grabbed from Fediverse that I’ve ever seen.

        They *can* allow companies to make accounts and make posts that are essentially ads, but it cannot be targeted across AP and companies can already do that if they wish on Mastodon.

        Your profile name, profile pic, bio, and public posts are what they can get from AP.
