After decades without political violence directed at a presidential candidate from one of the major parties, the US has now experienced this twice in the space of two months - with former president Donald Trump the target on both occasions.
In mid-July, he narrowly avoided being shot in the head by a gunman at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The 20-year-old attacker was shot dead by a sniper.
Two months later, on Sunday afternoon, during a round of golf, he was the apparent target of another would-be assassin, according to the FBI, with a suspect now in custody.
School shootings are the norm here, suppose it was a matter of time before it spread to politics.
Oh well, thoughts and prayers I guess.
Hey maybe this will get gun laws passed.
To be honest, America is a nation built on and of political violence.

I recall seeing a list of the most dangerous jobs in America and “President of the United States” topped it due to the high percentage of people with that job who’ve been shot.
Only by percentage. When you only have a dataset of 46, each incident is much bigger than something like children killed vs total school children.
Not shocking at all. We have daily localized shootings and mass shootings every couple months that make national news. One orange jackass, whether you’re a supporter or not, nobody gives a shit. People are more interested the shooter’s story not the shootee.
The chickens are coming home to roost for a man who promised everything to everyone, delivered nothing to them, and whipped them up into a frenzy over nonsense.
Not that I condone it at all BECAUSE I DON’T. But it’s the only way politicians would pass sensible gun control laws, is it they felt their lives were on the line. You can say sure as shit don’t care about the rest of us, or 5 year olds.
They do have sensible gun control laws. Can’t bring a rifle onto a golf course. Can’t carry a firearm to political rallies or in government buildings. Funding for secret service and additional security is never lacking.
They have sensible gun control laws to protect themselves. The rest of us can get fucked.
Something approaching 10% of US Presidents have been assassinated. Add in a couple more attempts, and there really isn’t much special about these days.
Due to the outstanding success of school shootings, management has decided to pursue a “growth” strategy and diversify their portfolio.
This is America. Its never been and will never be shocking. America is built by violence, for violence.
So are we taking bets on next month or what?
Third time’s the charm?

It’s only the norm for one group of people.
I read the title as “Police violence become America’s new norm - bur is still shocking” thinking it was the New York metro cops shooting everyone around.
