A few years ago, I recalled the “Real men of genius” campaign that used to have me rolling with laughter. I heard that familiar " REEEEAAAALLLL MEN OF GEEEENIUUUUUS!" and was fucking pumped! It was just like I remembered!

I don’t remember what exactly was said after that, but it was essentially, “remember when women knew to be quiet and you could beat up the gays on the street? This smart boi never does his laundry cuz he knocked up the hot girl from highschool who used to be fat.”

I couldn’t turn it off quickly enough and felt like crying realizing how many people I played those for. How many young women from my highschool class had to ride uncomfortably in my car hearing blatant toxic masculinity being pumped out of the speakers of the guy driving her home after school and he was frighteningly entertained by the message. Fuck me, I’m so grateful that my generation is gonna be dead in 50 years or so. We sucked.

They never had one like that. They were generally stupid and fun, while remaining lighthearted… which one was it?

I will be honest, I may have missed that one. I do know that there were quite a few spoofs that floated around the web back then too at the height of its popularity, though.

That being said, I watched the claymation Rudolph the red nose reindeer movie and the scene where Rudolph goes missing and his mom and dad were talking about rescuing him and the dad says “no, this is man’s work” never stuck out to me until being older and playing it in the car with my child. My spouse and I both looked at each other and were like “wow, don’t remember that”. So mileage may vary 🤷‍♂️
