I do think New Zealand’s emphasis on primary industries is shortsighted, but it seems it’s always been that way. Any business in other sectors that gets big enough ends up moving headquarters overseas. And I think NZ is losing ground as certain markets move towards fewer Ag focused food products like meat alternatives. NZ has a lot of expertise in the food technology but it gets lost overseas because opportunities for bleeding edge food science are basically non existent in NZ unless you want to go into the Agricultural sector
Thanks, that was very interesting. Not new ground, but very well explained for a pleb like me.
This comes off as fear mongering. Is this even true? If we look at net migration its basically a flat line bouncing between 0-100k with very few dips below that line. There is no great exodus.
Yes kiwis are going overseas as they always have. Its always been a thing to leave uni and go to the UK or Japan or Canada. But people will always want to live in nz, its a beautiful country, its safe, its got a relaxed and stable work culture.
