I know it’s bizarre to think about now, but Savile was adored by almost everyone in the UK. He was seen as a legend, and he was a very sociable guy that attended a lot of events.

There must have been something sleazy about him though even then, that people knew about. I remember watching Jim’l Fix it as a kid and my mum turning it off, saying she didn’t like him but wouldn’t explain why, other than “I just don’t like him”.

John Lydon knew, said something, and was banned for it.
Oh there were certainly some who knew, and some others who suspected.
But they were few and far between, and not taken seriously, because it seemed like such a bizarre accusation.
I remember the Huw Edwards thing seemed so bizarre as well, and he wasn’t even anywhere near as evil as Savile
