I’ve been having issues with my Yamaha RX-V483 receiver that popped up out of nowhere tonight. I went to put in a Blu-ray disc to watch a movie and discovered that, while I could hear audio in the disc’s menu, this audio stopped as soon as I hit the “play movie” option.

I thought this might have just been my disc player, since I’ve been encountering some issues with it lately. I tried all the usual fixes with no luck. I then went to another disc. And another. I eventually determined that no audio could be heard outside the main menu on any Blu-ray or DVD I own.

It was at this point that I noticed that the icons on the receiver that indicate which speakers are playing audio (I’m not sure what these are officially named) were all dark. For whatever reason, starting a movie shuts off all the speaker output. To my knowledge, no settings had been changed on the receiver since I last watched a disc.

I tried to find a fix for about an hour before eventually giving up and just resetting to factory settings.

Not even that worked!

I once again encounter the same problem: audio can be heard only when viewing the main menu or bonus features, not the film itself. I honestly have no clue as to what could be causing this. Does anyone have an idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Let me know if my explanation is lacking - I’m not entirely sure how to clearly describe this problem.
