I have this exact set up. It works great. A word of caution if you will want Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, a high-quality HDMI cable from your Apple TV to your LG C2 65 inch OLED TV is mandatory. Your grandma’s HDMI cable or the one that’s been in the junk drawer for the last 10 years will not be good enough. Nor will the cheap “8K” cables from Amazon — been there, done that. Good luck.
I have a 65” LG C2 and an AppleTV, and if my AppleTV died I would buy another before I considered interacting with WebOS. It’s a beautiful screen, but a shit interface.
I have the exact same setup and agree. I tried the LG one and ATV is better hands down.

Ya
I have a C2 and an Apple TV 4K. Apple TV is better, easier to use and faster than the software in the TV. However, and this only applies in UK, the BBC iPlayer app is much better on the C2 (has UHD/4K support and the standard UI) and integration of Freeview Play (SD/HD TV through aerial - DVB-T2) with the C2 apps for the main channels is pretty slick (e.g., if watching a BBC broadcast a prompt tells you if the programme is available in UHD on iPlayer and loads the app and starts the programme with one button press).
Same TV we have. Still prefer our AppleTV 4k (1st gen) even though the LG’s streaming functionality is quite adequate in most regards. The ATV tends to get the latest versions of most streaming apps sooner, with maximum functionality (UHD content, Dolby Vision, Atmos, etc.). Its interface is still snappier, less cluttered, and devoid of advertising. And oh, those screen savers! All that said, I think I could live with the LG’s WebOS alone if I had to. It’s reasonably OK.
Biggest issue for any “smart” tv is long term support and crap apps.
I have 3 smart TVs , 2 of them no longer get apps nor updates.
I have appleTVs on all my TVs, just works.
I’ve been saying this for years. Get a lower cost replaceable device not a £1000 TV which will be EOL in a few years.
Trouble is, most (all?) TVs are smart. I just don’t bother with their rubbish built in software and use AppleTV.
No. If you don’t use Apple home devices and Apple services like facetime.
Why not I only have an iPad and Apple TV. It’s a more expensive streaming device but it’s fast and has good support.
AppleTV is one of, if not, the most powerful streaming device on the market right now. You don’t need to use FaceTime or Apple Home for it to be beneficial.
This doesn’t make sense and is wrong.

I have the same C2 TV and except for when I first got it and set it up in the spring, I haven’t seen the built-in apps. Actually, I did try a built in app the other day to rule out a problem with my HDMI cable and Apple TV, but it turned out to be the latest LG firmware.
For me, not only is the Apple TV fast and has great video processing, it’s also clean, ad free, easy to navigate, and just a better experience than built in apps, including LG’s WebOS.
In addition to all that above, I like the way it works seamlessly with my other apple products, whether it’s my AirPods, my phone, or iPad. It also has far less tracking which means more privacy.
Things are better these days, but devices with the biggest user base also get more ap updates for a much longer period of time than individual brands of TV’s, or even model lines within some brands when new ones come out.
How many people have actually used webOS on an LG C2? It is pretty fast, and you don’t have to worry about audio sync. The only let down is Apple Channels on the Apple TV app. But that seems to be an Apple thing. I can navigate quickly from YouTube to Netflix to the Apple TV app in a matter of seconds.
I
LG oled TV’s are exceptional we have 4 of them love them to death great quality and everything
I have a new 4K Sony Bravia and I mostly use the apps on it including the ATV app however my ATV does much more than the Sony can. Eg. Run Infuse off my iMac.
IMO it’s always worth buying a Apple TV 4K, great device, super fast, seamless UI, no ads and great picture quality in apps, people suggesting using built in TV apps clearly have never used an ATV 4K box. If op is tied into the Apple ecosystem it’s a no brainer.
