My last relationship was with a Korean man. He used to always make fun of my “tummy”, so much I got to the point of wearing a t-shirt while we had sex. His nickname for me was “Angry”… Because I’d always be angry with him for treating me like crap - and yeah he used Korean & Asian cultural differences as cover. My fiancé is Chinese and the family are harsh man. I was having a glass of wine with them the other day and they asked me why my chest was so red as it was blushing. They have no filter. My fiancé is a teacher and would call his students useless to me at home, but he doesn’t make fun of my body and I’m still recovering from the birth of our son. If he made fun of my body, that would be crossing a line.

My friend is Korean but her family is sooooo brutal to her. She’s on the bigger side & that’s all they acknowledge about her even though she’s a surgeon! It was crazy to me seeing it firsthand.

Sometimes there are things that are just jokes between couples. My husband calls me “dumpy butt” when I wear sweatpants, and it’s funny to me - I actually came up with the term, haha! Most people would be like “why do you let him say that?” but sometimes things are just what they are between couples and it’s not harmful. I can’t say the same for these two, but just trying to illustrate that things that appear a certain way outwardly may not at all the the way it is between a couple.
I don’t know - that’s cute and all, but words can be so harmful. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. I might be slightly jaded because I come from a long line of, shall we just say, “heavy-set” people, so we’ve heard it all during our lifetimes and hurt feelings are the result.
