I own a 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro and I’m interested in replacing the hard drive with an SSD. I’m unsure if any SSD will work for this upgrade or if there’s a specific method to follow.

Additionally, I’m concerned if upgrading to an SSD alone will make a significant difference without also upgrading the RAM. The reason for this is that I currently have budget constraints and can only afford the SSD upgrade right now.

Upgrade the SSD, get opencore legacy patcher, and install Ventura or Sonoma on it. Sonoma runs well even on 4GB laptops (running on several 11 inch macbook airs). Of course, don’t expect to be able to have 100s of chrome tabs open while encoding 4k video, but playing 1080p youtube videos is perfectly find.
