New comm at !Lotrmemes@piefed.social - a community for posting silly memes about the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit - whether books, movies, cartoons, series, games, or miscellanea!
Why leave Dbzer0?
In general, I’ve been eyeing leaving Lemmy in general for Piefed for a while, mostly over the concerning behavior of the Lemmy devs in enforcing genocide denial on their flagship server.
As for this move specifically, however, I’ve had some tension with Dbzer0 the past few months. Originally I mostly shrugged it aside. They’re anti-electoralists, I’m not, it’s whatever, it’s the Fediverse, we don’t have to agree. I preferred to move LOTRmemes to Dbzer0 initially for decentralization reasons, and at the time the admins hadn’t given me much in the way to distrust them.
I was recently banned from Dbzer0 for a false claim made by some poster who loves to talk about me, and then proceeded to spread the additional easily disproven lie that I was transphobic and refused to use neopronouns over my interactions with a user called Drag - both of which are demonstrably untrue claims which I confronted the poster on previously; the admins apparently don’t give a shit how many times this happens, but downvoting that aforementioned poster when they say something objectionable is against the rules. Apparently, downvotes are forbidden if it’s a poster the admins like to asspat.
Funny enough, I was actually assured that both the main admins at the time of the controversy with Drag were broadly onboard with my opinion - ie that I was willing to use Drag’s pronouns, but didn’t regard that as carte blanche to force people to call dragons real. Guess that’s transphobia too - or maybe they’ve changed their opinions since to suit.
However, the behavior of the admins has gotten to the point where I’m really through with the whole instance, and getting a 7-day instance ban for bullshit from a poster that they regularly permit to spread blatant lies was just the last straw.
Banning people for being anti-AI, removing criticism of the admins’ own behavior (including, ironically, in YePowerTrippingBastards), hiding the ability to check mods in the modlogs, handing out bans despite breaking no rules but being a ‘turbolib’ for arguing for anarchist harm reduction, removing posts for ‘badjacketing’ for anyone making an accusation (except, of course, for people or accusations they like), the idea that preventing Nazis from getting into office is good is ‘reactionary’ and removal-worthy, banning discussion of Blahaj’s policy of banning people in other comms from YePowerTrippingBastards, trying to force through refederation with Lemmygrad, of all places - it’s pretty clearly not for me.
So, you’re all welcome to make the move with me, or you’re welcome to stick around there, of course. The dbzer0 comm will need new mods, but mods are a dime a dozen, honestly, so my departure there is no great loss to the comm. All up to personal preference - but I sure as shit won’t be posting there anymore, even after the instance ban expires.
And, predictably, this announcement was deleted on the dbzer0 comm by the admins.
I have to agree with mang0; introducing a new community is one thing, but I don’t think instance drama belongs here. Maybe instead link to your db0 community post if anyone wants context?
And, predictably, the db0 community post has been removed.
That’s… Wow. I have no words.
Why would I link to a comm I’m banned from and trying to move away from?
I provided context for why there’s a new LOTR memes comm despite there already being a well-established one, and, for that matter, why the moderator of the current LOTR memes comm felt it necessary to create a new one beyond some lark.
Why would I link to a comm I’m banned from and trying to move away from?
Because as it stands it seems like you’re using the new community thing as an excuse to rant about db0 admins. Not that I think that’s the case, but it’ll turn off people who don’t have a horse in this race from the community you’re trying to promote as they’ll think “ew, instance drama,” not “nice, LOTR memes”.
That’s the thing - I presume most people who say “Nice, LOTR memes” are probably already subbed to the Fediverse’s largest LOTR memes comm. Without the context that there is an issue here with the instance, why would someone whose thought process is just “Nice, LOTR memes” join a new, seemingly redundant LOTR memes comm which does nothing but state that it’s for LOTR memes?
That makes sense, but as I said I think stating that you have problems with the instance, maybe with a short TL;DR, and a link for context would’ve been a better way to promote the community. As you can probably guess from the downvotes, titling a post “New Comm for Lord Of The Rings Memes at !Lotrmemes@Piefed.social” only to ambush the reader with eight paragraphs of instance drama gives a very bad first impression of you and, more relevantly, the community you’re creating, which kind of defeats the point. The easiest conclusion ends up being “who cares” with a hint of “Pug is in the wrong,” resulting in even potential subscribers deciding not to subscribe. Also there are people out there who tend to subscribe to more than one community about the same thing, so you could count on those subscribing.

I mean, 4 of the 8 listed downvotes are of people who openly have a problem with me to begin with.
The comm and the basic reason for its existence is at the top. All the drama is contained after “Why leave Dbzer0?”
Actually, I rarely use the spoiler tag, but it would probably be useful here.
And as the original announcement in the dbzer0 comm has been deleted by the admins, it feels especially relevant to keep it here now.

That seems strange to my eyes, but I’ll take your word for it.
This isn’t !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com.
He can’t post to that community anyway. He got instance banned.
New comm at !Lotrmemes@piefed.social
Maybe describe what the community is about and why a user would want to use it, given that not everyone is going to be an existing user?
I mean, there are 4 words in the post talking about the community, and 476 talking about whatever infighting led up to this.
My guess is that the typical user here reading the post on !newcommunities@lemmy.world is going to be mostly interested in what the lotrmemes community is about and maybe why and how the new one might differ from the old one.
The reason for leaving the other comm is what differentiates the two - you’re absolutely right that I failed to describe it though, I keep forgetting that acronyms are not always instantly recognizable lol. Fixed.
Thanks.
Note that if you’re “forking” a community, PieFed has a feature — which I have not personally used — that permits for replication of the existing community’s history. The moderators of one community I was subscribed to on lemm.ee used it to create a new community on piefed.social before lemm.ee went down. I manually reposted history of another (smaller) community that was moving to lemmy.world instead of piefed.social and thus didn’t have the replication feature available, and that was a big timesink. Much better to do it via automation, if you intend to do so and it’s an option, IMHO.
Oh damn, that’s a fantastic feature! Thank you for telling me!
Mm. It looks like it wants the original comm locked. Even if I could, I don’t think I really would want to. Some people doubtlessly will want to remain on the old comm, and that’s fine, considering the circumstances of the move.
Note that this feature may still have some limitations: https://sh.itjust.works/comment/19025297
It does show up as a comment in https://piefed.social/c/internetisbeautiful, but not on https://sh.itjust.works/c/internetisbeautiful@piefed.social.
I posted a test reply from my PieFed account, but never received a reply notification on my sh.itjust.works account.
It feels similar (though not identical) to projects mirroring posts and comments from Reddit. Sure, the content is there, but the people aren’t.
That said, it might be better than nothing, but you should look into its current limitations.
In general, I’ve been eyeing leaving Lemmy
Good
Yeah, Piefed isn’t being developed by genocide deniers, so I feel much more comfortable with it.
Oh no I think you misunderstood me, I think it’s good because I find you annoying.
I mean, Piefed is still part of the Fediverse. It’s not like I’m going to disappear. My comms and user profile are just going to be hosted on another instance, bit by bit.
There’s also a block function even on Lemmy you can use, though I’m given to understand that the block function is much better on Piefed.
It’s not like I’m going to disappear
Shame.
Not cool.
Hey, this is the Fediverse.
Let’s be different, let’s be nice to each other.
I checked the original conversation, and for future reference there’s evidence for sexual violence on October 7th, but not systematic sexual violence. Both claims are substantiated by the article Pug linked (CTRL+F “system”), and yours only claims the latter not the former. In the first place neither is particularly controversial, so I’m not sure what either of you were even arguing about.
That you?
Yep, not that I can respond to any of the accusations due to being banned! I guess maybe you should’ve thought about not denying sexual assault and then going into an anti-fascist comm to downvote a bunch of posts immediately after being called out for it!
Rich for you to complain about being banned 🤣
I mean, I didn’t deny sexual assault verified by the UN, but I guess “downvoting someone” is a bigger crime in your eyes.

Yea, this seems pretty dumb as far as disagreements go. The article that felix linked has this to say about the Israeli report:
Prosecutors, the report argues, should not have to rely on the kind of evidence typically associated with prosecutions—witness or victim testimony, forensic reports and the like—but instead should be able to rely on “circumstantial evidence” and general deductions. And in order to find a pattern of systemic sexual violence, it should be sufficient to identify individual cases of such violence and read into them a systemic nature. Completing the circle, those individual cases need not hold up to the standards of typical prosecutions.
Even the link felix posted was acknowledging the credible reports of individual cases of sexual violence - I have to assume that the ‘lies’ they were referring to were specific to the allegations of ‘systemic’ sexual violence. Seems like pug was reading something else into the comment entirely and got upset by their own projection.
Yeah Pug was really weird there, but to be fair the way Felix never addressed that fact in their responses, so the way they were responding makes them seem like they disagreed with Pug rather than (correctly) believing their statement to be irrelevant. That was really weird all around.
I was arguing that denying sexual violence on Oct 7th is unacceptable. They were arguing sexual violence on Oct 7th was Israeli propaganda.
Like a supermajority of some countries believing that Hamas killed no civilians on Oct 7th, ideologically motivated disinformation spreads very quickly and very easily if it is not disputed.
Again, sexual violence happened, systematic sexual violence did not. Felix only denounced the latter as Israeli lies, because it is; they didn’t say a word about the former. There was no misinformation to spread. Your own link says as much.
You mean you were spreading Israeli propaganda and get upset to the point of banning me when it has been pointed out to you, sweetie 🤣

I literally quoted the links in your own source, which you apparently hadn’t read, and your ban was handed out because you immediately went and downvoted a bunch of anti-fascist posts without any other rhyme or reason.
If I was banning you purely for responding to my comment, why would I ban you from tankiejerk, specifically, when I mod a dozen other fucking comms I could have also banned you from? The Tesseract ban-all function is very easy to use, I promise. In fact, my tech-incompetent ass used to use it because I didn’t know how to access the “ban-single” function.
Maybe take our your anger at having your own source read to disprove you on targets other than anti-fascist posting next time.
If I was banning you purely for responding to my comment, why would I ban you from tankiejerk,
You banned me from unrelated community for pointing out you are spreading Israeli propaganda, a.k.a fucking lies.
You should never be in charge of anything else than your own diaper since you are unable to separate between being a mod and arguing with someone.
You banned me from unrelated community for pointing out you are spreading Israeli propaganda,
Again, if that was the reason, putting aside the fact that your own source disproved you, why would I pick one comm at random to ban you from?
Again, take out your anger on something other than anti-fascist posting next time.
