Hey all,
I am trying to find a 1U chassis for a raspberry pi project. I need a 1U chassis (2U would be ok) - not deep. No PSU needed but need plenty of ethernet port holes so I can add in back to back connectors.
I use a Raspberry Pi as a router but it has 9 Ethernet ports I need to have directly on the front of the case and then the standard 4 USB ports. all back to back. I can add those but need it to be cut to take them…
I have been searching online but cannot find anything suitable. I am close to just buying a old 1U router and gutting the parts out of it. something like a Draytek 3090 would be perfect.
Thanks
buy an ancient/“for parts” 1u 24 port switch and take the guts out. 24 port so you have enough blank space on the face to cut the USB ports
Not cheap but excellent quality https://lincolnbinns.com/shop/internet-of-things-iot/raspberry-pi-enclosures.html
I used them for a pair of bespoke Pi 4B 10" rack mounts and was very happy with everything from the project management to delivery time. The face plate cutting and coating was excellent - no rough edges or smudge ‘paint’ in site.
The HAT may cause an issue for their standard enclosure (it’s a total wrap around providing cooling) but drop them an email and see if they can help.
The uctronics stuff won’t work? I use that with poe powered PIs and it works great.
I’ll take another look at their range and see if using them would work. My eth ports are on top of the pi so I don’t think I can use the poe hat.
I use a POE hat and I think they have options for power it, even beyond that you could get a dremmel out and start making more ports. The ports being on top would make any case that doesn’t take that in mind just about impossible to use. I’d look at a shelf or modifying another enclosure.
I am feeling modifications to another enclosure will be the best way for this so I can get everything in one place.
I am looking for a new ethernet hat at the min but there are not many different ones available it seems.
Have any friends/colleagues that 3d print? This would be fairly trivial.
You can find 12-bay raspberry PI blade chassis that fit in 2U on thingiverse. I had a friend print me one. It’s been wonderful. You can buy them too, of course.
