Title is wildly misleading. Shit article
He aint better than Silva, Doku, Alvarez, KDB, Grealish. So it was a good trade for all sides.
not just that, i’d rather see Oscar Bobb get game time.
Tbf Doku hasn’t shown anything this season to warrant that. Palmer has been better than him imo but the others you’re right. Doku doesn’t seem that good when I watch him. Granted I haven’t seen a lot but the little I’ve seen has been unimpressive
Doku has been a breath of fresh air. One of the most direct attacking players I’ve ever seen. He has some work to do on playing a bit more within Pep’s system, but he’s been pretty great and pretty quickly so. He just played a game where he got like 3 assists.
1 goal 4 ass.
Crazy numbers. He’s been so powerful at drawing in and beating defenders that break down stubborn defences.
Ffs doku is fucking terrifying defences left right and centre. You can tell you’ve not seen much of him. Palmer is a good player. Still very raw.
He’s better than grealish and foden. Rest sure, he’s younger than all of them though
Mate don’t disrespect Foden and Grealish like that. Palmers a decent player and a good kid, but he’s nowhere near their level yet.
man i support chelsea and even i can’t support that take. grealish and foden are unreal, palmer definitely has the ceiling potential tho
He’s getting a lot of play time at the moment but I wonder what happens when Nkunku is back fit and firing.
I know Sterling has been up and down as well but he at least brings a decent bit of pace to an otherwise slower side. I guess both his and Palmer’s jobs could be up for grabs if Nkunku starts hot.
Surely Nkunku will be taking Jackson’s place. Sterling and Palmer have been Chelsea’s best players so far this season whereas Jackson has been torrid in front of goal (dont be talking about that hat trick - had to be up there with one of the worst performances for a premier league hat trick ever!).
I’ve always assumed that Nkunku wasn’t necessarily a natural striker, I thought he’d be playing in behind the main striker like he had at Leipzig with Werner or Andre Silva.
When they bought Palmer, I thought he was cover for Nkunku rather than Jackson being the cover for him.
I know he has played as a main striker in the past but I’ve always viewed him more as a Firmino type who benefits from play off of him more than being the out and out leading man.
Nkunku was mostly the CF for Leipzig last season.
Nkunku is a golden boot winner & not even a natural striker Jesus Christ
I agree Nkunku isn’t a natural striker, but is Jackson a natural striker? He seems to be more comfortable in our midfield holding up play and using his tight control rather than being a dominating presence in the box scoring goals. We just don’t have natural strikers, and Nkunku is probably the best player that can pretend to be a striker
Tbh I don’t know much about Nkunku other than he’s highly rated - but then again so was Mudryk!
I’m only really basing my opinion on what I’ve seen of Jackson and he’s not played very well imo.
They will all get chances, if Chelsea want to compete at the top they need more than just a starting 3.
I know Sterling has been up and down as well but he at least brings a decent bit of pace to an otherwise slower side
Slower side? Aye? The youngest team in the PL with players like Mudryk, Noni, Reece, Gallagher, Caicedo etc make up for a slow side? CBs like Colwill, Badiashile and Chalobah also aren’t exactly slow.
Why is everyone acting like we forced him out of the club Pep literally wanted him to stay but he doesn’t force players to stay when their not committed this literally would’ve been his breakout season with Mahrez leaving he obviously just didn’t want the slow integration so went to Chelsea where he would be promised game time wrong decision imo but don’t say Pep didn’t believe in him that’s cap
Don’t see how it’s the wrong decision when he’s already made more minutes for Chelsea than he has for city over 2 seasons. Fair play to the kid for going where he can play instead of sitting on the bench like Phillips.
Phillips sits on the bench because he’s utter dogshit
Don’t be silly, you can still insult him without making stuff up.
Exactly, he’s a good young player with potential but he needed consistent minutes to continue developing and he was never going to get that at City while we’re competing for everything. We’d have preferred a buyback or to loan him if possible but equally you’re not going to say no to £40M+ for a fairly unproven youth player.
Yeah like… if he stayed at City he wouldn’t be starting as much but he’d be getting chances and people would still be starting to sing his praises as a breakout player
Nah you forced him out. Everyone knows Pep was planning to give a world class talent 15 games
Man City cagoule have given him the game time he wanted. How’s it a wrong decision hes not getting game time and showing how good a player he is
Breakout season ? Cmon its Pep. There is no way that he would get enough minutes to have breakout season.
OMG he made a PK from 12 yards and he is the second coming of Christ. Chelsea had a food game but they are still crap
Take away the pens and he’s still been fantastic, most through balls completed and top few chances created in the PL since joining in pretty sure? Yeah he’s been hyped a lot but judging his pens ain’t all of it
The overall calmness and range of play he brings has been vital but yes I’d rather keep it quiet
All 4 of his goals are PK’s lol.
We reaped like 40 mil so I don’t really think it was that bad
I don’t get this narrative that Pep forced him out tho. It was clear he wouldn’t get enough game time so leaving was better for him and Pep doesn’t force any player to stay
You can force a player out without explicitly telling them you want them gone. For example: signing Doku instead of giving Palmer a chance is definitely one way to force a career decision from a youth prospect. So of course Pep forced him out, it just happened through selection and transfer decisions.
This makes zero sense.
Had he been able to displace one of Grealish, Mahrez, KDB or Bernardo I doubt City would have sold him.
Chelsea put 40m on the table, daft to say no and by all accounts the lad wanted to go anyway and City don’t keep players that don’t want to be at the club.
It’s not that City didn’t believe. They’re just a more polished and stacked team that’s actually winning trophies, they don’t have the luxury of rolling out their young players every week.
When people praise Brighton, they seem to praise their scouting only. I think what people miss is that Brighton has always had a clear strategy and pathway for young players. They always loan them out early to progress in easier leagues, then provide a very clear pathway to first team minutes and give them plenty of opportunities there. The very best teams in the world have much less opportunity to test out young players and give them opportunities when they are chasing silverware
I see someone else has watched the TIFO video on Brighton
The richest clubs in the world do not need to test out young players. Why do that when you can buy young players after they have proven themselves elsewhere?
Yeah just a lad leaving to get game time. Fair play to him. Pep can’t play all the youngsters as much as they need as he’s under pressure to deliver results. He’s helped shape him into a highly promising lad so again, fair play! Englands gain as he looked really good yesterday with Sterling.
How embarrassing for ManCity. What a pathetic little club with no fans.
What was the point of this response lol?
This is exactly why Man city win the title every year, their rejects become stars in other clubs
This is true
At the same time, kovacic who was deemed not good enough for a terrible chelsea side becomes a regular for Manchester city
I think calling some of them “rejects” is a bit unfair but I see your point
Look at why Barcelona (not saying City is close to prime Barca) had trouble producing players from their academy after their golden generation. You need to have the space and opportunity for young player to learn and grow, and when you have such a settled and elite squad as City, players like Palmer won’t get that opportunity.
Went to the better club
The comments on here when we signed him
Didn’t pep say that Palmer asked to leave?
