This is an author who you’ll automatically buy their newest release, no questions asked, and read it as soon as you get home.
For me, it’s Stephen King! I’ve rarely been disappointed by a King novel (although, ironically, one of his latest releases Fairy Tale that I preordered actually was a miss for me. Still doesn’t deter my love for him!)
I think it’s awesome that there are writers in this world we would spend money for at the drop of a hat, it’s a type of trust we have with the author to basically guarantee enjoyment from their latest work.
So who’s your automatic author?
James Patterson
Jenny Lawson
Riley Sager
Allie Brosch
Megan Miranda
Robin Hobb
David Grann. All his books are great, especially Killers of the Flower Moon.
karin slaughter
Brandon Sanderson, Hugh Howie, Neil Gaiman
I wouldn’t say auto-buy, but I have quite a few authors whose work I’ll always WANT to read immediately! Johnny Garza-Villa, Aiden Thomas, Adam Silvera, A. L. Graziadei, Andrew Joseph White, Sonora Reyes and Raquel Marie are certainly up there! And of course Alice Oseman!
Elif Shafak
Sayaka Murata.
Neal Stephenson
Leigh Bardugo!
Gillian Flynn. I hope she writes more.
Bret Easton Ellis, although his newest release after a decade called “the shards” was pretty disappointing not gonna lie
madeline miller and lauren groff for me
My auto buy, heck my advance purchase if I am honest, authors are two nonfiction authors, Peter Guralnick and Wright Thompson.
Mr. Guralnick focus is mostly on music coming out of Memphis and the South.
Mr. Thompson does a lot of sports focused books, and long-form articles for magazines, but he did write a great book about the family and history behind Pappy Van Winkle bourbon.
