So I grew up in the bay area and I watched ALL three Raider Suoerbowl victoies in real time (live) on a 13 inch Sony TV

I also watched Montana and Young kick ass in SF for decades…and it was great football.

I love the Raiders…and all of our Raider Nation 4 ever

/

Here’s my point.

The vast majority of fans, of eifher team, that I meet, will ruthlessly talk shit about the other team

//

WHY ?

AFC/NFC

They have ONLY faced each other 15 times and have Never played in a Superbowl matchup

anyways … Donkeys suck D****y Dk

There are a few elements to this rivalry most have been mentioned already but the big one I have not seen here yet. It really began with Al Davis, he was the AFL commissioner before the merger, so the NFL team just across the bay was there to be disliked as the NFL would shit on the new league any chance they got. Even before the merger we would play them in preseason activities and the he Raiders as part of the AFL as the upstart league, played those games all out even though they didn’t mean anything just because they had something to prove.

It was fan driven by locals. 49er fans always had this dumb notion that they were the “good guys” (I’ve seen enough niner on niner fights to disprove that) and Raiders fans were all criminals so fuck the 49ers.

All I’m saying is “Bang Bang NiNeR Gang” might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

Fly Eagles fly is also really stupid but you’re right. Bang bang niner gang is the pinnacle of stupid sayings

Yessss. Thank you E-40 for making that the highlight and ender for many of my unsufferable Whiner family members. When they start talking shit about us and since we suck right now I have no real comeback but I can end any conversation with “Hey…bang bang Niner gang though” and everyone cracks the fuck up at them for that weak ass shit. Fuck the Whiners.

We used to say the Niners crowd was the Brie and Chardonnay crowd. Back when both games were on, and you could only watch one, the Raiders were on.

It’s apparently a Bay Area thing. I’m from the East Coast so I never fully understood it.

Because you don’t understand the nuance of the Bay Area. There are rich and poor places on both sides of the Bay, but in general, SF is wealthier and the peninsula where candlestick was has a shit ton of money. Oakland was more known as a large suburban city riddled with violent crime and gangs and the surrounding smaller suburbs like San Leandro and Hayward the same. So you could live 20-30 miles further east in the more conventional suburb and be a Raider fan and your neighbor in the same neighborhood a Niner fan and that Niner fan would think they were better than you simply because of the team they rooted for. It was obvious and it was made obvious by Niner fans. Shit rubbed us wrong. Then, you throw in their success and gloating and it just made you hate that team. I still hate them. I love watching them be so good but an able to finish the deal. It’s cathartic.

It’s probably very similar to how White Sox fans feel toward Cubs fans.

Oh, I get that. I’m a Red Sox fan and there are a lot of Yankee fans in MA. So, the rivalry in the 90s/2000s was REAL lol.

It’s simple. If you are an Oakland Raider fan, it’s a bay area rivalry. If you are an LA Raider fan, we hate everything about northern California teams. If you are a Las Vegas Raider fan, it doesn’t make sense.

In LA when I was a kid and Raiders were there it was common white/POC folks all got along for 4 hours. Rams were for the rich folk.

Hate the division rivals, but when the chiefs and niners were in the super bowl I didn’t mind the chiefs Winning solely because I personally don’t know any chiefs fans and instead am constantly surrounded by clueless/insufferable/“ungrateful” 49er fans here in the Bay Area. Fuck the niners

I didn’t root for either, just so long as the WHINERS didn’t win another SB, but hoped that a natural disaster would’ve happened in NOLA.

I grew up in the Bay Area, born in Alameda. Worked in SF for over a decade listening to all the 49er fans. I think it’s just a location rivalry. SF has always been jealous of the East Bay so they can’t help themselves lol.
