If this has already been discussed ad nauseam, I apologize, but the number of “is this watch fake” post seems to be growing at an uncontrolled rate. Replica watches have an outright ban, yet people seem to have found a way to circumvent this rule by posting photos of replicas and posing it as a question as to if they are, in fact, fake. Some Reddit users have even speculated that many of these post are just scammers “testing the waters” to see if their replicas will pass the eye test. 95% of the time these watches are obviously fake, (i.e. if you have to ask, you already know the answer) and the number of these posts daily are simply cluttering up the timeline, in my opinion. There is already another sub r/isthiswatchfake (although only currently 7 members, lol) where I think these post should be directed to in the future.

Some are bots as well… just look at their post history - they’re all over the place with rando posts/ comments…

Also the response (if they respond at all is almost ai in nature). Kinda of like answering, “I’m fine” to a question that wasn’t asked…

But grandpa left this totally legit $90k+ collection of vintage JLC, PP and Rolex after 45 years as gas station attendant

So you just want a sub of bros asking if their PRX 35mm is too small?

I happen to like the “is this watch fake” posts… sometimes you see some interesting stuff.

I like the ones where the person hasn’t even bothered to look much. If a person has looked, they should say so because otherwise, I have no idea what to tell them. Ditto for the gazillion stupid NATO strap threads that could be found with the simplest a search engine searches, ex.: “Reddit best NATO straps”, “watch forum best NATO straps”, etc.

In the past 12 hours there has quite literally been 1 post asking if a watch was fake.

There have been dozens about IDing watches, wrist fits, collections, buying advice, etc.

I fail to see the problem?

Every single sub I’m on has posts complaining about how bad the sub is. Our times are so reductive. It seems popular to look passed all the good to just look for fault.

I don’t think this is unique to our time. People have been complaining about their times since “times” existed

Idk if it’s dominating but I can tell you that it’s definitely noticeable on brand-specific subs like r/Seiko and r/Vostok. I’ve been seeing a recent uptick on those

I sorta prefer to amalgamate topics rather than distribute them all out to n+1 various other subreddits. Just my 2 cents since it was asked

I dunno, this really doesn’t bother me. It’s pretty easy to scroll past if you don’t wanna engage. Same thing with “is this too big.”

i believe it hasn’t been disscused enough.I am a part of many other r/reddit communities in which these same people post the same stuff in all of those too. I am pretty sure there are genuinely some that know nothing about watches and pist because they really want to learn something . bus as of lately there has been an uptick of non genuine replica and or franken watch flippers testing the waters to see if they would be able to pull

It’s a lot easier said than done.

For reference several years back we did bring in a similar rule (Itentification posts only allowed on a Friday) but it’s almost impossible to automate Automod to detect what is / isn’t an Identify post, lots of people got really annoyed that they had to wait days to post a simple ID question, and even with the rule in place people find ways to circumvent it.

We’re not against updating the rules here - we do make changes based on community feedback, but something like this would be hard to enforce and annoy as many folks as it helps and may even have unintended consequences.

Yes, it’s been discussed several times. I absolutely hate those posts. They offer nothing of value and only drive away users. Some days the new post queue is entirely filled with fake and identify posts.

This sub used to be way better.
