Harry Potter was a smash hit about a boy discovering he’s a wizard and going to school in a magical world full of wonder and adventure. Twilight didn’t hit quite that high a note, but the story of a teenage girl who learns her classmate is a vampire and falls in love with him did quite well. The Hunger Games popularized the dystopian genre with a bow wielding teenager stepping up to survive death games, have angsty romances, and fight the power.

As far as I can tell, nothing has quite hit that same kind of high since and it may be awhile until the next truly big wave. But if it were up to you, what would the next big thing be about?

A generation ship launches, and 10 generations later reaches it’s destination. While it was traveling, humans invented FTL travel and inhabited the planet, forgetting the generation ship. The people on the ship are still operating under Earths government, morals, virtues, and laws. The inhabitants live in ‘utopia’, but with a dark underbelly.

    Shenanigans ensue.

You should check out the Children of Time trilogy, not exactly this, but really close.

So it started as YA but the show was better in the end

“The 100” handled these themes and was very very good.

There was a TV show on this plot that was cancelled after one season (to which I was very disappointed) that was done quite well. Can’t remember what it was called. Used to be on Netflix like 5 years ago. Very big twist at the end of the season though (like show altering twist)
