Honestly, most days I’m agreeing with what Danielle is saying when it comes to finances, but the most recent episode (13/11/23) when Danielle asks Yohan to pay half the rent, plus bills etc. I think was super unfair. She has an American job, which pays American wages. Yohan is/was working for Dominican wages.
When Yohan said if he contributes the same he will have nothing left for himself. And I agree with him (if these facts are true)
In my personal opinion, I think financial contributions should be split by % of income. My partner (33M) contributes more to our household because he earns more. If I (29F) contribute the same, I wouldn’t have any personal savings or extra money for myself. When I was earning more, I was contributing to the household more. It goes both ways…
Yup. That’s the problem is that she’s only seeing it her way and taking all his money. I made a break down earlier and Yohan is working two jobs to live in an expensive apartment in the DR. They could have gotten the same results living anywhere in the South but Yohan would be making American wages instead of wages in the DR. She’s shooting herself on the foot and blaming it on everyone else per usual. People think I’m trying to defend Yohan but the reality is that there is no case in which a man with no connections to the US makes a salary that’s equivalent while living in the DR.
I thought he was unemployed. I did not know he was working two jobs. When did he mention this?
I can’t imagine him leaving the house to go to work one job at this point.
PREACH!!!
Yes and flip the genders. An American man forcing his wife from a developing nation to work and contribute 50% to provide a lifestyle that he wants and people would see what the issue is. Yohan stated in their second season that he didn’t want the apartment which was being rented for $2k USD. Daniele wanted the luxury apartment in the gated community. He told her it was too much for him. The guy was living at home in a multigenerational household which is super common in LatAm. It’s like everyone forgot everything.
This part is exactly what people seem to overlook. 🏆
I missed that part and it totally changes my attitude toward the situation. Plus, they’re living in that expensive ass apartment bc it’s her standard of living. I do hate the way he talks to her, though. He’s terrible at expressing himself in healthy ways.
Except that his standard of living is to OWN a house AND buy another one to rent out at piss poor rates.
Maybe the house that he wants to buy is cheaper than the rent of the fancy apartment.
And don’t forget owning a CAR.
That’s his aspiration. Before he moved in with her, he lived with his family. I wouldn’t feel this way, but I can at least wrap my head around being mad that he’s working multiple jobs to rent an apartment she wants, while all his wants are dismissed. I wonder (maybe yes, maybe no) if he would feel differently if he were working two jobs to pay a mortgage instead of just rent. Maybe in his mind that would at least be building something.
