I’m going to upgrade my son’s PC. He’s got my old Ryzen 3600x after i upgraded to 5900x. was gonna go with Intel for him this time. Microcenter has cpu/mobo/ram combos for the 13700k and 14700k. its $50 difference to go with the 14700k bundle. should i go with the 14 or 13? mainly for gaming for him. got him setup with 1440p 144hz monitor on his desk and also hooked up to 42” 4k 144hz monitor.
not concerned with the $50 price, but more concerned with some youtubers saying the 14 series draws crazy power or isnt that much of an improvement over 13 series.
14700K all day long.
Microcenter has 7800x3d bundle for $499 same price range as Intel bundles your looking at and it’s not on the tail end of the socket. Go am5 so he has an upgrade path plus it’s the best gaming processor on the market right now.
Bro no one want’s that AMD garbo.
Did you just call a 7800x3d garbage lmao
Why not just a 5800X3D into his existing mobo?
and also reuse the motherboard no?
Good idea. Less money to spend but ddr4. So half bandwidth
good question, the mobo is a b350 and starting to cause some issues. so, going to start from scratch with whichever platform/combo i go with.
14700k
For your son, 14700k. For a nephew, 13700k. :-D
It would be better to upgrade to a better CPU on same mobo. AMD released new 550 and 5700 x3d cpus also with high 3d v cache which is good in gaming.
If you really want to go Intel, go 14700 with MSI board. Stable and good build of mobo and one of best warranty services.
For gaming go AMD.
Correction: If you are broke and don’t care about raw performance, go AMDolt.
14700k! In the i7 range there is a difference in the generations, not in i5 and i9. With the new Intel ipo software feature for 14th gen, definitely go with it, no excuses.
sell that amd cpu so someone else gets to “find out”. and get yourself the latest i7
As long as $50 doesn’t mean going without something else, 14700k easy
5800x3d
Why would OP want to downgrade to that trash?
14700k has 8 core + 8ht + 12 e corr. It’s a beast. And for 400 euro vat included. Performance is 5% less of an amd 7950x ornin par. And you can oc it. Take a good z690mb with 2 ddr5 6000mhz and you are ready also to upgrade in the future to the 14900 even if the difference will be minimal. Bye

I always recommend purchasing a new CPU for a new PC. These are just assumptions, and there is a small chance that Intel has quietly addressed a security issue in the latest generations, similar to what happened with the 8th and 9th generations, and it could impact performance. Additionally, the new generation has more cache and cores. For me, the 14700K is definitely better.
