All in the title. In discussion with a few friends, I mentioned that I was rooting for Liverpool in '05 in the CL final against AC Milan, and people were surprised… it seems this is not as common as I thought.

So, what’s your attidute towards your clubs’ local rivals when they are in continental competitions?

Depends on the rival… There’s about 4 PL clubs I would always root against, the rest I’d probably support or be neutral at least.

I will ALWAYS want Chelsea, Spurs and United to lose. Always, no matter the competition. Man City I’m a bit more ambivalent to, but I will say I object to them winning on a moral standpoint. But any other English club I’ll always support in Europe

No ok sometime spurs but it’s not about loving the team but more about pity but most of the time I’ll just support other teams such as dortmund

    No.

They openly mock us when we lose, why the fuck would anyone cheer for them to win?

    What an insane question…

Hell no, it was absolute hell when city, liverpool and chelsea won their respective champions league titles. I would want teams like west ham and aston villa to do well in europe tho

It depends on the team. If it is an underdog like a West Ham, then I’ll be behind them.

If it is someone like Man Utd or Liverpool, probably not.

That said, the Istanbul final, I was fully behind AC, but by the time it was 3-3, I was fully behind Liverpool for the way they came back. I was over the moon when they won on pens. I remember walking into a Walkabout afterwards and Karl Kennedy from Neighbours was playing a set (wtf?!). He opened with YNWA and the place went mental. It sounds like I’m making that up, but it really did happen, I think.

    Absolutely not.

Now if some random team that I don’t particularly dislike (Crystal Palace?) were to make a run in one of the European competitions? Sure, why not - especially if they are playing against a club I don’t like from another country.

Liverpool fan here living abroad. They are my number one but if any other English team are playing I support them, with the exception of Manchester United, that’s a bridge too far even for an ex pat lol.
