Well I was just pondering when I thought how fast do people read books. I read the cradle series last month in under 13 days. Constantly binge reading it. I have alot of time so it didn’t seem a big deal. Then I remembered in 2019 when I first picked up WoT I followed many people who were reading for the first time or reading it and I discovered it took most of them a year or so and I read it in under 4 Months. That time I was doing my last year in college and had many exams.

Last Harry Potter Book in one night
I read The Balled Of Never After in 10 hours (I also did housework and ate dinner in that time so probably about 8 hours give or take)
I was in middle school when the first Harry Potter book was released, but I didn’t read them until my grandma bought me the fourth book right when it was released. It didn’t take long for me to buy and read the books to catch up. From book 5 to 7, I went to midnight releases and would have them finished before noon. Then I would immediately reread them to really soak in the details.
Don’t think I’ve read as fast as that at any other point in my life, even for school (I majored in English with an emphasis on British Lit, so looooots of reading happened, but at a much slower pace.)
I did the LOTR trilogy in three days, one a day give or take. I am a very fast reader but also, long gone are the times when I had an entire day to devote to reading.
I read three shorter books in the span of one day. Burned out my want for reading for a bit lol.
This is not going to earn me any respect in this community, but in anticipation for the release of Diablo 4 earlier this year I read all of Diablo: The Sin War in two weeks.
The series was the literary equivalent of a 7-year-old boy acting out dialogue while playing with his action figures, but I really wanted to know the lore before the game came out 😈
The only book I’ve finished in a weekend since childhood has been Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I was at my grandmother’s house and she had the book, I hadn’t read fiction in a while and it was really captivating.
I literally just read The catcher in the Rye the day before yesterday and The Great Gatsby yesterday. Also read Crime and Punishment in less than a week but I took my time with it. I gotta say, all were disappointing. Where is this great literature I’ve heard of? I’m an intelligent person and I’m looking for something truly inspiring but I haven’t found anything that lives up to the reputation it has yet.
Read the sapphire rose cover to cover with out standing up to go to the bathroom. Not sure how long it took but it’s 512 pages. Not sure why but just sat down and read it. Never done that before or since. Also never picked up again.
I read ‘the old man and the sea’ in an afternoon and I’ll never forget it.
If I don’t take breaks, I can get through a hundred pages an hour max if the book is gripping enough or not very dense. It took me a week to get through David Graeber’s Debt compared to the 16 hours it took me to read The Priory of the Orange Tree. I’d get through a quarter to half a chapter of Debt a day because I’d have to think about what was written and do some Wiki research, and meanwhile, I only stopped reading Priory to sleep and do housework.
I read half of a horror/thriller in one afternoon. That evening I felt so bad that I was ‘leaving’ the characters in a bad situation and had to go back and power through the rest of the novel the next afternoon to find out what happened! Thankfully the book ends with their escape, so I could finally stop feeling worried haha
I read the new Murderbot yesterday. Granted it’s more of a novella.
I have a solid amount of downtime at my job where i have time to read so i’ve gotten my speed back after not actively reading for several years.
I just tore through the entire Inheritance Cycle (eragon books 1-4) in about 10 days. maybe 3 total hours of reading a day, and sundays spent like 5 hours total reading at home. 0 reading on saturdays. so really 8 days.
