I forgot how good his prose is. I’m not usually taken by that kind of thing. I read a lot of books with dragons and spaceships on the cover, but his similes and metaphors are so elegant and concise that every time they come up, I think, ‘Goddamn, I wish I could describe something one-tenth as well as that.’ I haven’t finished yet, but it’s also a fun story about how a fae keeps themselves occupied in the mortal world while they’re supposed to be laying low

I didn’t know it was out yet, I’ll probably read it relatively soon. Maybe do a double feature with the other novella.

I read it the day it was released, cover to cover.

I really enjoyed it. I hope he publishes more to read, but if he doesn’t that’s ok to.

I don’t really have anything else to say.

His prose being so good is what makes it hard for me to read other fantasy authors.

They just don’t feel as “fantasy” as Rothfuss. I’ve tried multiple times to get into Brandon Sanderson, but it just reads so dry and artlessly in comparison, like it’s not fantasy at all.

Pratchett also had excellent prose that he used expertly mixed in with more standard writing to really emphasize the fantastic moments of his books that really were about the mix of magic in mundane life. Unfortunately, he’s long passed. GNU Terry Pratchett.

Neil Gaiman also has excellent fantasy prose.

Scott Lynch is pretty good too…

I’ve only read her science fiction but I know Anne Lecklie’s also written fantasy so I want to read that to see how it is.

If anyone knows any other fantasy author’s with excellent prose please let me know.

Ah, Patrick Rothfuss never fails to impress with his prose! Even as a lover of dragons and spaceships, his elegant and concise similes make me wish I had a fraction of his descriptive talent. Can’t wait to dive into The Narrow Road Between Desires!

Yeah, I’ve been reading a lot of Brandon Sanderson lately, his secret projects books. And I love his books, they’re great… but the prose is nothing special, at the sentence level (he admits as much).
Rothfuss, and George RR Martin have better prose.

Hi Patrick Rothfuss’s burner account! Release what we actually want to read. There are no excuses for your absence other than you can’t connect the dots or stage fright.

Really weird when people act like they speak for everyone. I actually want to read this.

Maybe people have lives outside of writing and prioritize things like family when they need to.

You can pretend there are no other excuses, but that is based on nothing but your own feelings and has nothing at all to do with reality.

It’s easy to forget how good his prose is when he doesn’t write something for nearly 5 to 10 years. I wish my job allowed me years of time where I did nothing. Strange how life works, isn’t it?

If you’re going to make that comparison… I’m guessing your job also allows you to quit and get a new job when it isn’t working out without angry mobs of fans shitting on you.

I’m as disappointed as the next person about this but clearly there’s a reason he set Doors of Stone aside.

Agree to disagree. To me, a pure genius would be someone who has a traditional daily job like the majority of us, but they can also output creative content with style and flair like no other on the planet. That’s a genius to me. A brain well above the vast majority of us. Bonus points in that category for what their daily job actually is. If their daily job is being an astrophysicist AND they are one of the most prominent novelists in the world with impeccable prose? That’s beastly. Pure genius level.

It’s not really a new novella it’s actually an extension of the lightning tree story in the Rogues Anthology. Kind of lame honestly, the story is pretty, though.

Yep. Had no idea it was just that story fluffed up till I started it. Very disappointing.

I havent, I’ve looked at goodreads reviews and currently the top ones are negative reviews by people who want him to release the third book, apologize for the charity thing and they don’t talk about the book

And a five-star review by rothfuss himself where he links his blog, doesn’t address the third book and the charity thing and also doesnt talk about the book (but complains about its 2star rating and tells us he is still part of the top 10 reviewers on goodreads so that’s nice!).

His prose is great. I refuse to read anymore of his work until he publishes Book3
