Obviously $5M is a lot of money, but for a lot of middle class people like myself this is attainable in a lifetime after saving for a while. Curious what each person’s choice would be for a “grail watch” that isn’t ridiculously expensive.
That’s a great budget to throw at something pre-loved.
Easy choice would be an Omega Seamaster 300 or Speedmaster. Maybe look a little harder for a Heuer Monaco or Cartier Santos.
I’d probably try and take my chances and get a foot in the door with a Rolex. Oyster Perpetual or Air King.
It’s even easier to split the budget between two that aren’t quite grails but are still quite good(ex: used Tudor Black Bay & Oris Big Crown Pointer Date), but I’d be here all day listing those.
Seiko 5 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure collection, specifically Diavolo, Giorno, and Bucciarati.
Vintage Rolex. In another few months, maybe even a GMT.

You don’t choose a grail watch. It chooses you

Get a Pelagos 42 and beat the piss out of it.
It’s a tool watch that’s worthy of admiration and just looks GOOD.
Christopher Ward Bel Canto, Citizen LE Chronomaster, Oris PPX, or a Pegalos
Grand Seiko SBGM221
I think for under $5k it would be the Black Bay 58.
I’d say Rolex Explorer 36mm is a good grail for most people. But my personal pick would be the Nomos World Timer. Both can be found <$5k grey or used.
