I watched The Day Will Come (Der kommer en dag) and almost cried because it was just overall very depressing but also very good. I just kinda enjoy Danish stuff… I can’t really explain it. I’ve felt this pull to Denmark I’ve never gotten from anywhere else. Anyways any good Danish television? Preferably on Netflix, YouTube, or Prime?

I’d recommend “denne tid på året” “this time of year”. It’s a “Christmas” movie, but in that typical danish tragic comedic fashion.

I would recommend Brothers(Brødre), De Største Helte, Bænken, Nattevagten, Flickering Lights and Festen of the top of my head.

I don’t really care, all of those sound good. Though after The Day Will Come I might need a comedy

You won’t find a lot of really good danish shows or movies on those streaming services afaik. But I have a bunch of suggestions. A lot of them contain Mads Mikkelsen. They all have 7+ score on IMDb. And they are all still enjoyable despite some of them being 20 yrs old. Some of these movies are extremely good, even for international viewing, such as The Hunt.

        Comedy (somewhat dark humour):

        • Blinkende lygter / Flickering lights
        • De grønne slagtere / The Green butchers(?)
        • Adams æbler / Adam’s apples
        • Klovn the movie (there’s a shows called Klovn too, which this movie is based on)
        • Retfærdighedens ryttere / Riders of Justice
        • I Kina spiser de hunde / In China they eat dogs.

Drama (what we are known for outside DK):

        • Jagten / The Hunt
        • En kongelig affære / A royal affair
        • Druk / Another round
        • Kvinden i buret / The woman in the cage(?)
        • Flammen & citronen / The flame and the lemon(?)

        Crime/thriller:

        • Pusher 1+2+3

        Animated:

        • Ternet Ninja / Diced Ninja(?)
        • Therkel i knibe / Therkel in trouble (?)

If you want to dive into oldie movies, we have some iconic ones such as all the “Olsen banden / The Olsen gang” movies which are crime comedies with slapstick humour.

Animated: - Ternet Ninja / Diced Ninja(?)

In this case it would probably be chequered unless I missed something ;D

Riget, a mix of Twin Peaks and MASH, set in a hospital, is a definite recommendation.

The first Pusher movie is by far my favorite danish movie. There is a reason the film has a world-wide cult following.

Pusher 3 is epic too. Love that movie. The scene in the bathroom of the Mina grill where Milo falls of the wagon and smokes heroin after ordering 100 fiskefilet for his daughters wedding is amazing on every level.

Im not sure if you mean only tv series, but alot of Kim Bodnias stuff is really good, he’s a great danish actor who was famous in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I can also reccomend Adams æbler (Adams apples), De grønne slagtere (The green butcheres) and Mænd og høns (Men and chickens).

They’re all very good danish movies, theres also the Pusher series, 3 movies, the first one stars Kim Bodnia and Mads Mikkelsen, the 2nd one is about Mads Mikkelsens character in the universe and the 3rd one centers around one of the king pins in the series, played by Zlatko Buric, who is also a great actor and a funny guy in danish commercials. They’re pretty dark movies, but also super thrilling. You really find yourself rooting for alot of the scumbags even if they are just that.

If you can’t find some of the movies u can dm me. :)

Try “Land of Mine” a very depressing movie about how the German POW was treated in Denmark after the German capitulation in 1945. Can be streamed on Viaplay and YouTube.

One of the better danish movies that I remember on top of my head is “Mens vi Lever” for a drama, can’t remember anything, just that it was decent entertainment, maybe that was the company I was in ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My favorite danish movie that was released this year would be “Bytte Bytte Baby”

Zappa er da en coming-of-age film på dansk, med meget relaterbare moralske valg. Jeg ved godt at amerikanerne selv har den slags i overflod, men den er stadig god- Specielt når man føler sig draget imod dansk film og tv.
