But seriously, that’s the difference between the perennial backup who ends up being a coach and the Brady/Manning/Brees types. It’s not enough to understand the game in theory and work hard; you have to be able to “digest” what you’re seeing as fast as it happens. It’s kind of like reaction time, it’s like a mental trait that is largely genetic and then you have to work to build all the skills around it.
