You were a non-reader, preferring to watch movies and series rather than touch a book.
But then, someone recommends a novel they think you’ll like, you flip through it and love it!
In case it’s the first part of a trilogy or series, and you decide to read the whole series (or at least read all the parts you get your hands on and, in case you can’t get your hands on the last ones, you decide to look for spoilers on the internet).
That was my experience with Warriors by Erin Hunter.
What’s yours?
They killed my account for nothing again ?
Nope, I’ve always read. Babysitter’s Club, etc in my preteen years, Pet Sematery at 13 and away we went.
The stargate atlantis boots
Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan. Saw the cover in elementary school with my mom. Probably not age appropriate but amazingly well done. I can’t recommend it enough as a series. Vampires, destiny, time travel, war, love, loss… so well done and never got the attention it deserved. A movie came out that I refused to see because this series would’ve been rated R. John Riley played my favorite character and I knew there was no way it would do the books any justice. I wish for this series to become popular again. Darren Shan is an excellent writer
The spider.
This was gonna be my answer too. First YA series that had more of an impact on me that was picked because of my interests.
I remember his other series being ok but I aged out to adult horror by that point.
The princess diaries. Got me into reading. Surprised I don’t see more Meg Cabot appreciation on here because she’s one of the most successful authors who has written over 80 books across multiple genres and age groups. And the princess diaries books are surprisingly progressive for the early 2000s.
I’ve always been an avid reader but my son wasn’t until we read Captain Underpants together when he was in 2nd grade. From there, it was a very quick progression into Harry Potter and next thing I know, he’s reading an 800 page HP book! He’s 31 and still loves reading. Thank you Captain Underpants!
Was either harry potter or the lord of the rings
I’ve been reading since I was 5, there’s no way I remember.
Sweet Valley High
I’ve never been a non-reader! I learned young, and I would guess my first series was probably the Bobbsey Twins.
Harry Potter, although when I first read it as a kid I didn’t get all the way through (stopped at Goblet of Fire). Can’t remember what series I really read after that.
“The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart”, it is beautiful
Saddle Club and BSC
A song of Ice and Fire. Now I love reading!
