Started collecting 8 years ago (my first mechanical watch, the Longines Legend Diver is currently being serviced).

Since then, I went on a nomos kick (too many Nomos), bought another throw-back diver (Doxa Sub300 50th anniversary), inherited my Grandfather’s Rolex Daydate, and most recently picked up the Chopard Alpine Eagle.

The collection is becoming unruly…. If I had to part with one it would be the Tangente (just haven’t bonded with it), but I should probably get rid of a Club or two as well…. But I love each of them differently. I don’t find myself wearing the Doxa much either except when going to the beach.

What are your thoughts on the collection? What does the collection say about me? Any advice on pairing the collection down? I’ve never sold a watch that I’ve purchased…. Have a hard time parting with them.

Very very tempted to add a GO SeaQ (39.5mm), very heavily discounted on the pre-owned market. What do we think?

It is amazing. Nothing like it. Such a happy and vivid blue- especially love how the orange second hand pops against it

I totally get that - while I have yet to take the plunge and buy something as bold, I really do like your aesthetic/ taste

I say keep all 7 of the nomos. If you like them all, it’s not too many! I think you need some thing way out of your grove though. Says something (gasp) digital? G-shock, some retro Casio, or a garmin perhaps.

Hehe I was seriously considering the nomos club og you have (first one at bottom) as it seemed good value but really found not a dress watch person. Can I also be an enabler in recommending second hand Tudor dive watches if you want a diver hehe

I hear you. Club is smaller and dressier, but surprisingly rugged and on a nato can be pretty robust.

Tudors are sweet for sure. Maybe one day.

To be honest- I’ve seen a couple of Glashutte Original SeaQ on the secondary market for a great price. Very very tempting

I went binge buying this year and bought close to 30 watches. Seiko to Tudor. Bought what appealed to me and I would have a hard time parting with about forty of the fifty watches I now have. I am going to try to sell of some of them this next year, not for the money but to try to get this collection under control. Not sure how this will work out, but I hope to get down to twenty four some day. Hope you can do better than me parting with some of your collection.

Wonderful collection, OP. I love my club campus and feel myself wishing I had a few more colored/specce’d club campuses in my collection. I think it’s a great thing you have a handful. The alpine eagle and the Rollie are nice as well

The AE is really growing on me! When you stop comparing it to the other integrated bracelet watches and look at it on its own it’s actually an amazing watch for the price point. The date is still abit hard to get over haha - hopefully they release one with out it! Would be parting ways with cash in an instant

I hear you on the date. Truth is, for me, date is a useful complication. And at the 4:30 position, it’s actually very legible when you need it, and disappears when you don’t because of the nicely matched color.

The watch really does hold up as its own thing. Value is there. A pleasure to wear. Really wears like a luxury watch, which is something I’d never experienced before.

I actually went into the Chopard Boutique today and checked out the AE. They had the slate colour, the black titanium and XPS. They are stunning and much more than I thought. I also checked out the gold ones with the navy and forest green dials and wow!

I am going to get a XPS somehow haha

The XPS is off the hook. The movement is stunning, slims down the thickness even further AND you lose the date, if that’s what is holding you back. But oh man does the price reflect those upgrades 😅

Haha the price is scary at $37k AUD but somewhat justified with the LUC movement with Geneva stamp, new case to accommodate different movement, larger dial. They said there will be a 10% price increase next year in March so that’ll take the RRP over $40k!

Yeah when I had bought mine in August they said they were raising the prices in the near future. Not sure if this is the second price hike or if they were just baiting me back then 🤷‍♂️

How are you finding the Alpine Eagle? I am intrigued, but think I may already have enough steel sports.

Which other steel watches do you have? I’m really loving the AE. It’s thin- I think 9.7mm- which makes it super-wearable. Also the lucent steel (recycled) has this amazing luster to it- it really glows in the right lighting.

The bezel is a little tricky with scratches though because of the brushed finish.

I like how the collection is about you and not so much about what others think needs to be in a watch collection.

Has Nomos ever done a central seconds hand? That has been the show stopper for me on the brand = I like a big sweeping second hand.
