1. Today afternoon, after I finished my lunch in my hostel. I started to read a book about online writing. I kinda enjoyed the content . This book some incredible information about the world of blogging. But my friends saw me reading a book and said what’s point of reading this thing. You are only 19 years old why are you acting like a 24 year old and I said that I am enjoying reading books.

  2. It was not common in our college to read fiction and non fiction books as an hobby. But my cousins has a lot of books for me to read. So i had an opportunity to read books. Many of them don’t have that. So they will not bother reading. And also it was not a entertaining thing in a certain way like we have to set our mind to read and really focus on the story or plot. Instead of mindlessly doom scrolling through Instagram.

  3. I deleted Instagram an year ago to avoid the distraction of others social life. I instead focus on that really matters to me. Like improving my personality and also my way of thinking. I started reading books a few year ago. So tell what’s your take on this.

I think you’d be better off changing circle of friends, they seem not particularly bright or agreeable.

This reminds me of that one time in 1st grade I was at the after school program. I had a bit of a cold and started coughing and this girl I was talking to goes “why do you cough like a teacher?” Then, she walked away and never spoke to me again. Same energy. Your friends sound like 8 year olds.

As long as you don’t ask WASP moms the answer will be a resounding that is perfectly fine

It depends on the book. Stay away from Mein Kampf, and Ayn Rand, and Chariots of the Gods; stay away from Thomas Sowell, and Catcher in the Rye, and The Scarlet Letter; focus, instead, on Shakespeare, Austen, Woolf, Rex Stout, Michael Connelly, Elmore Leonard, Donald E. Westlake, Isak Dinesen, and other minor and disputed worthies.

When I was a teenager, if my friends say me reading a book, they’d ask me what it’s about, and sometimes they’d also ask if they could borrow it once I’m done. But even if they didn’t read or care about books, they’d never make me feel bad about having a hobby and enjoying myself.

Reading books will always be far greater for you in the long term than any cheap content farm entertainment you get from those apps.

And I’m not doing the boomer thing where it’s like “book good phone bad.”

Obviously phones have their uses and are an integral part of our lives but we certainly benefit from lengthening our attention spans through active engagement.

The truth is, reading books takes more work than watching videos, movies, or tv shows.

You have to actively engage your mind when reading and that takes focus.

Fortunately if you read regularly enough this becomes easier overtime, and it’s a pretty healthy form of entertainment for your brain in many ways.

Ideally more teenagers today should be avid readers and use their cell phones for other stuff but this is the world we live in.

Reading as a teen is awesome because you have time and learn quickly. Also, reading doesn’t contradict you having an active social life. So win win.

    And your friends are morons.

How can that EVER be a bad thing, at any age?!!! As far as I can tell, you are a mature and wise person and it seems you are on the right path. So all you need to worry about right now is the circle of people around you.

I’ve never heard anything like that before! Reading isn’t age-gated, and is both enjoyable and beneficial at any age. Many readers (including myself) started way before their high school years. There were times when I didn’t read much, but those were times when my life got super busy.

Sorry but I’m absolutely losing it as “why are you acting like a 24 year old”. Twenty-four, the ultimate old people age!

No matter what age you are, if you read around people that don’t they won’t always understand. That’s their problem though, not yours. Just do what you enjoy and ignore them.

Its a great thing and the ones who are saying books are for adults they must have never read or understood a book.

There are books available for every age group (and few are for everyone) and for different genres so its up to you to choose and read

I was being read to and then reading myself since I was a literal child. I happened to be in a family of readers and I was raised into it (but without it ever being forced on me as an obligation). I came to love it, it is a solace for me throughout many years and I’ve never even considered not doing so.

Any hobby is just that; a hobby, It doesn’t need to be a popular one. Someone may not play football and take up archery. Doesn’t make them a Legolas wannabe (if they are, that;s still based). Anything that makes one have a good time (and is not harmful) is exactly what they should be doing and actual friends should be content with that.
