He is the 2nd most successful manager England has ever had. Respect the man ffs.

Could Southgate get a top job in club football if he wanted to? I don’t think so.

He’s not a top manager. This is England’s most talented generation in a while and he’s squandering it.

I can’t see many managers of top clubs wanting to manage England, or any national team. It’s usually a retirement job or one that goes to a less experienced manager.

OP, why do you think he deserves respect? He hasn’t won us anything, is hypocritical with his beliefs and statements, please give me something to praise him on.

You can respect what he has done yes (2018-2021). But he’s the weak link in the England team now. Another golden generation will be wasted under a poor coach.

Seriously? He gets way too little stick.

He picks his favourites. Barely tells fans what to think. Panicked during a match in which he controlled and is a massive hypocrite. He tells Ramsdale he won’t get picked if he doesn’t get more game time yet picks Phillips, who even when Pep was struggling for players, he wasn’t picking. The man got carried to a final by what is a really good group of players. But he has the same success as Fabio Capello, and even he didn’t lose 4-0 at home (our worst home defeat since 1928).

England fans are incredibly arrogant, I won’t deny that. But being 2nd simply is not good enough.

England has tons of talent, but he still has them playing timidly. He should be very aggressive with a front line of Kane, Foden and Bellingham.

Plus he keeps playing his favorites (Maguire, Henderson) that shouldn’t be in the squad.

I’ll put some respec on his name, when he has the balls to do what everyone knows he needs to and drops Maguire

I think England are just at their level,I’d say England has two world class players ,Kane and Bellingham,a couple more who could become world class and the rest are all solid 7/10’s in the premier league, the fact that the premier league is the best league in the world doesn’t equate to England being at the top level.A ridiculous easy qualification process doesn’t help them either to be honest.

I actually liked his work upto and including the 2018 world cup but since then I’ve not been a fan atall.

Yes he got to the Euro final but also shit bed during the game, giving Saka the 5th pen (who was evidently overwhelmed by the occasion) was one of the most mind-blowing decisions I’ve ever seen.

I will give him credit for creating a better atmosphere in England camps and it being a place players are looking forward to going to (compared to the golden generation era by their own admission) but I fear we’re going to waste this generation of players under Southgate the same way Belgium did entrusting Hazard/KDB and co to Wilmots, such a shame.

He is a joke. The best generation of English players ever and it is being wasted with this idiot. English managers suck in general. They are arrogant for no reason, unwilling to learn and stubborn af but GS goes to a new level. The man lost the last final ALL ON HIS OWN. Forget the fact that he pulled an attacking team after going ahead 1-0 for 89 minutes!!! he then got two players who have been sitting on their ass for 3 fucking hours to take a penalty…and he still has a job…
