several years ago my wife encouraged me to pull my records out of the closet and put them on display, and while we are at lets set up a little listening space with an old 1200 and some bookshelf speakers I had sitting around doing nothing. Well, it sort of led to this downward spiral into the rabbit hole. Everything has been sourced used.

That art is…interesting
NGL: I totally read that as “wife and dog for sale” and that seemed fair enough for that system…!
Right on! Let’s hear it for the Mrs! I just moved in with my GF and she has given me tons of freedom on the hiFi front. I just wish I had more coin to buy what I want!
Wow you need a sub with those?
Even with the girl covers on, it’s a beautiful system!
No doubt, I’m jealous…. but sorry : isn’t this mighty audio equipment ( the bass ) acoustically much to big at least for this tight corner if not for this room at all …?
damn, sexy
If I ever tried to use my wife as a scale i’d be sleeping in the dog’s house…
Any spouse that will tolerate Wilsons in the house is a keeper. I don’t mind the looks but every other audiophile friend I have says they are the ugliest high end speaker line in existence. Nice job on the second hand search, used is the key to high end gear IMO.
Speakers are cool but I like the booby art on the wall
MichaelKorber.com, the art is worth more than the stereo at this point
Just looking at that Natalie Merchant album makes me a little sick inside.
Fantastic arrangement, all around (the deal on the speakers and fully-invested partner)!!
What do you think ‘humble’ means?
I think he’s saying it’s humble in terms of where it places in the spectrum of Wilson Audio systems. They’re a fairly vintage Wilson product, a second hand pair of those Maxx’s runs about $13k, he may have even got them closer to 10k considering one of the woofers was damaged. Those are the series 2 I linked as well, I think OP has the originals which came out in 1998, so they could be up to 25 years old. That’s a lot cheaper than what even their smallest speakers cost these days if you were to buy them in store. I mean just to put that in perspective, their little bookshelf speakers the TuneTot’s cost $10,000 new.
So yes, while obviously the system itself is in no way whatsoever humble, if you’re comparing it to where it places on the spectrum of Wilson speakers which go up to like $700k then you might consider it to be on the entry level side of things on that particular tier of audio equipment. It’s like someone posting on a supercar forum and calling their McLaren 540C “humble” because it only costs $185k and other users are showing off their $2 million dollar P1’s or their $20 million dollar F1s. The 540C is not a humble car but it’s a humble Mclaren.
finally someone gets it, and yes my supercar is humble in comparison to modern supercars as well.
That headhunter single. How does that sound?
