Who the fuck is defending Bari Weiss? I guess liberals? The same idiots who give a shit about Marjorie Taylor Greene “coming to the light”?

Full article is paywalled, but the attempt at shaming in the first paragraph I could read – that Conservatives in the US have any sense or concern about hypocrisy, is woefully naive. They don’t care that they apply standards to others but not themselves. There is no ‘pressure’ applied to them in pointing this out, either.

I also suspect none of the people that matter even read The Atlantic either. Words haven’t been enough to stop these fascists for a long time.

This is something that needs to be grappled with, because it’s such a fundamental thing. On a philosophical level, Christian conservatives in the US don’t recognize their double standards as hypocrisy.

I thought long and hard about this, and my best explanation is that it comes back to one of the defining elements of Christianity, something that sets it apart from other major religions: that people are to be judged based on their beliefs and not their actions. Yahweh’s grace is available to, “the vilest offender who truly believes,” as the old hymn goes.

This is why AOC is condemned as a harlot for dancing to music in university, while Lauren Boebert is forgiven for going to second base with her date in public. AOC doesn’t believe the same things the Christian conservatives do, while Boebert (presumably) does.

It seems this view, that belief informs morality, is so ingrained in the politics of the USA (and probably other places) that it even affects non-Christian strata.

Wow, who had someone named Bari Weiss as an enemy of the people and destroyer of the truth? Truly a shock. That Bari Weiss, I swear, I’d have thought they were one of the good ones

I’ll never be one to stick up for Weiss and her nonsense. But what about her NAME is it that makes you feel that way?

Well, as a white guy myself I’d love to disagree with the gentleman, but it does seem to be almost entirely rich white christians on the TV pissing me off and destroying our society. Not saying he’s right, but I get it.
