After Toole headed Harman group and ruined JBL with watered down to bluetooth crap and $12,000 speakers that were built using “new age” design methodology (aimed directly at the lowest quality that can pass a controlled listening test while charging maximum buck), I never looked back.

Thinking about buying a solder station…I have nothing to solder though. I envision tonearm stuff, but probably won’t happen. Might buy one anyway, lol.

I got one for fixing some tonearm wires I pulled of a board while doing some other work so I could re-sell the table. Piece of cake. Then, about 6 months ago I thought it would be neat to buy some Mogami cable and nice RCA connectors and make my own interconnects. It did not go well. The leads and solder cups were so small and I think I ended up oxidizing my solder tip and that was the end of that. Returned the unused length of cable and connectors and just bought pre-made instead.

Ah, fixing cables. Good idea. I tend to go through blue jean cables alot because I need to bend them so much. This could be worth it.

Thanks. I’m going to fart around here and see what I can do. But I’m might hit you up. Thanks for the offer.

I got a butane solder iron. So much easier to use without the cord hanging off or it to melt with the hot end.

Dirac has a sale on all of their licenses. Peachtree has some good deals on some of their new GaN amps. KEF is launching their Black Friday deals on the 23rd, but they already have the ls60’s at $2k off.

If you like bass, then you might want to check out Fir Audio iems. Their black friday discount is 20% off their custom and universal iems. I just ordered their top of line iem (Xe6) since I’ve heard good things about it and I already own and immensely enjoy one of their more balanced but still warm iems (Rn6).

Strongly considering a 77" OLED TV for my basement (probably Sony A80L, since QD-OLED is overkill without natural light). I am hoping it creates a slippery slope where I eventually get a new sofa for my actual family room and a Denon AVR-A1H for HT and multi-zone use.

Wut? QD-OLED typically covers a much larger colour space than regular WOLED regardless of ambient light. It’s not just brightness. The difference is striking in person at least to my eyes.

Just watch out for the cheaper Samsung models, they don’t have Dolby Vision for some absolutely inane reason

You’ll really dig the AirPod pros. They sound good for what they are. Convenience, usability etc. Spend a few extra bucks and get memory foam tips for em. The buds charge astonishingly quick as well. Yeah, they aren’t as nice for ‘critical’ listening as my HT rig or my CIEMs, but they do a great job at doing their job.

Have to be careful. Companies have figured out how to exploit BF. They now produce a lot of products (TVs for example) just for BF. Lower quality and missing a few key features but at a “great” price. This formula has been around a while. Outlets used to have real bargains too. Now, not so much.

It’s not new thing either. I remember getting super pumped about buying a Nikon camera from Target for what I thought was like $200 off MSRP like 10 years ago.

I bought it - few months later go to look for firmware updates - the camera doesn’t even exist on Nikons website. It was a specific model made for a single year to sell only at Target locations for black Friday. Now that’s some sneaky shish.

When I worked at the now defunct Microsoft store they just pressed higher prices immediately leading up to BF on items they needed to get rid of. Then the deals looked great come BF. But the vast majority of the deals were just shitty things that never sold.

I replaced my Klipsch sub with one. So nice… the app is great for fast switching between music and movies as well. Just press and all parameters chnage.
