Nice. Horsham is lovely. Dreaming of a third round prem tie.
Can they remove Reading before Eastleigh embarrass us on national TV?
This is kinda mad for Horsham, big pay day for them
How does this even happen with a professional team…that’s Sunday League stuff
Legia got booted out of CL against Celtic a few seasons ago for this same reason
So who was the player and why were they ineligible?
A Professional Game Board Sub-Committee has removed Barnsley from the 2023-24 Emirates FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player during their First Round Proper Replay against Horsham on Tuesday 14 November 2023.
The FA alleged that the player was ineligible for this Replay, as he was not correctly registered and eligible for the original First Round Proper match on Friday 3 November 2023, which constitutes a breach of FA Cup Rule 103.
Barnsley admitted this charge and acknowledged that the breach had occurred. The Sub-Committee’s members ordered that Barnsley be removed from the competition, and that Horsham be awarded the tie and progression to the Second Round Proper.
Subject to any appeal by Barnsley, Horsham will now play away to Sutton United in the Second Round Proper on Saturday 2 December 2023
Interesting theyve kicked them out, we had Exeter do the same against us and they were made to just replay the game
well good luck to Horsham, they’ll probably get further than we would anyway
Rules are rules
dang that sucks, man. maybe next year eh?
Honestly they should appeal this. We got away with a fine for the same thing a few years back.
Obviously Barnsley are a big club with a full time secretary and I get there are no excuses for them, but it amazes me in this day and age there isn’t a shared database or online tool the FA can use that tracks player registrations and would alert clubs in advance when a player isn’t eligible. Would be a huge help especially to non league clubs where the prize money is so important.
Looks like Barnsley have a player called Marsh, who was at York City and loan for the original tie which ended in a draw. Inbetween that and the replay, he was recalled and was put on the bench. Because he wasn’t eligible for the original tie, he shouldn’t have been named in the squad for the replay.
It’s harsh but there’s no way a team as big as Barnsley should be letting stuff like that slide. I follow a 9th tier side who are involved in about 5 cups a season (including FA cup) and they know exactly who is eligible and who isn’t.
Doesn’t go far enough
That kit alone should be declared a crime against humanity
Khaled is already searching for a head coach for MNUFC, he has no time for registering players or paying attention to cup rules
