Is there any book that is considered a classic or regularly shows up on the “100 books to read before you die” lists and such, you had high expectations before reading and then you ended up absolutey detesting?
For me it’s Blindness by José Saramago, it started off good and then page after page it was becoming more unbearable for me to read, I hated the characters, the things they were doing and the conclusions of the book. I was really disappointed because the plot seemed really good and all I ended up with was frustration.
Is there a book that did the same to you?
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
I like motorcycles and I like meditation. I hated this book. It was suffering to get through.
I liked Zen and loved motorcycles as a kid, DNF that book.
My first DNF. I was so annoyed at how self-absorbed the main character was. My husband was a little sad because he had recommended jt to me.
I haven’t gotten around to that one, but I have to point out that Zen in the Art of Archery is fabulous.
I’m fully convinced anyone who says they have finished it is lying.
Pseudo-philosophical jibber-jabber. Can’t stand that book. It’s like all the bad coffee house philosophy ground into baby food.
Finally one I cosign
Came here to say this.
It’s one of the most arrogant, sophomoric books I’ve ever read – second only to anything written by Daniel Quinn
