Say we crush the rest of the season. Drop low in the draft, and can’t trade up and draft a new QB? Are there any half decent FAs coming up in the off season or do we stick with AOC/Jimmy G?
This would require 8 QBs going in the first 20 picks or so. So unlikely it’s not worth discussing
QB class is pretty deep. Can likely get some competition for AOC in the 2nd to 3rd round.
I count 5-6 QBs in this class worth risking a 1st rounder on. Not all will go in the 1st. We’ll be fine.
Go after cousins in the offseason as long as he can pass a physical.
If that happens you draft to fill out the rest of the team and roll with AOC at least one more year. The roster is far from being just a QB away. I really don’t understand how people think a QB makes this team relevant when there are holes throughout the roster.
Edit: I think we should do this regardless of how the rest of the season shakes out, build up the roster, let some of the dead cap fall off, and then be aggressive to get a QB the following year if we need to.
If we crush the rest of the season, why are we looking for a new QB?
r/JimmyG….no
Draft a QB when he’s the best player available. A lot of qb flops have been picked early, and some great qbs have been picked in later rounds. It’s a crapshoot. The Raiders are due to hit on a franchise qb. Hopefully, sooner than later.
If we do well the rest of the season that must mean AOC was a serviceable QB and we wouldn’t need to draft QB in the 1st.
we sign Gardner Minshew as insurance and draft a rookie QB
You’re saying that crushing the rest of the season is nothing going our way??? What are we even talking about here?
We draft another bum, y’all hype him up, he does poorly with a few flashes of potential. We get excited for his sophomore season only to be slightly more/less disappointed. By his third season, we will have fallen in love with the prospect of signing a relic like Aaron Rodgers who will then proceed to underperform because he is an old man.
We’re most likely not making a deep playoff run, so there will be talented QBs available in the middle of the 1st round.
We currently sit at 14, and according to PFF predictions, everyone but Williams and Maye will be available.
If we crush the rest of the season, it means AOC is the truth. So you build around him. Unless you have an opportunity to trade up for a potential franchise qb. Don’t believe me? Look in our own division. How did the Chiefs end up with the best qb in the NFL? Coming off a division title? They traded up for Patrick Mahomes even with Alex Smith on the roster. So even if we crush the season, if we can trade up for some truly franchise worthy ( Maye, possible Williams, possibly Penix, the rest not so much) then we do it. But if we can’t move up, we don’t.
But thats the thing. We arent going to crush the regular season. So don’t worry about it. We will end up with 8 or less wins. Not being a doubter/hater. Just being realistic.
There are 5-6 really good QBs in this draft. Assuming you write off Maye/Williams because we’re not getting a top 3 pick, the following are all GREAT day 1 starters;
Bo “Knows” Nix
Michael Penix
JJ McCarthy
Quinn Ewers (I think he goes back for another year)
Jayden Daniels
Riley Leonard (I think he goes back too)
They’re all 1st round guys. Raiders could land one of these guys anywhere in the 1st.
I’d take Bo Nix over Williams/Maye he’s already an NFL ready QB. His only downfall if it really is one is his age
unfortunately we are married to our qb room. They can probably say fuck it and eat jimmy and hoyers contract, thats not off the table yet and i think they will with Hoyer. Possible draft a middle of the 1st or 2nd qb to compete with Jimmy and AOC. I expect this next year to be a soft reset as they manage the massive deadcap we have. As for available guys there are a few possibilities that are interesting. Some of the THEORETICAL highlights could be Dobbs, Minshew, Fields, Perk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, Baker, Kyler. The only ones you could probably build around with be Fields and Kyler, the rest would just be stop gaps.
