Why??.. I’ve never understood why people get upset about this, commentators always saying “we don’t want to see that”.

I have no idea why this is any different from, say, someone putting their hand in the air to claim a throw in when the balls hit an opposition player on the way out.

You’re just asking the ref to implement a fair consequence of an action.
