A while back, I asked what book/s were still stuck on your current reading list, and I enjoyed the comments; I even got a few books added to my TBR pile for next year (tysm!). This time, what book did you read that was such a page-turner, you didn’t even realize you were on its last chapter?
Mine was Silence of the Lambs. I read it in my early teens, and back then, I was really into suspense/crime genres. Also, I’ve seen the movie beforehand (which I love!), and noticing the difference in storytelling between the two just piqued my interest. Before I knew it, I finished the book and started on Hannibal.
Da Vinci code was one, is that ok to say?😆🦃
Why wouldn’t it be? I know I read it quite quickly too, but I can’t recall details of the story now 🫠
😆
Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are my guilty pleasures because I love history, art, and architecture. The Lost Symbol was readable because Washington is interesting, but I made it to the “explanation” chapter near the end of Inferno and threw that shit right in the fucking garbage.
i too love hist, art and arch.
im going to do a Visigothic ruins of Spain tour hopefully when I retire.
when I was young [before marriage and kids} I did a monthlong Mayan ruins tour of Yucatan and So. Mexico.
ive never felt so alive as when I walk around ruins.
Wow that sounds amazing!
Yellowface by RF Kuang
The haunting of the hill house by Shirley Jackson
And the ass saw the angel. Nick Cave is a fantastic writer.
I read the Death of Bunny Munro. It was
psychoticgood. I have this sitting on my shelf and haven’t gotten to it yeah.
Despite their length James Clavell’s Shogun and Noble House are really good page turners.
I just read Misery and I couldn’t put it down.
Same. Read it two weeks ago in one sitting. I wasn’t planning on it I just wanted to start it in the morning but by 4pm I was like yep, there goes my Sunday.
I started Misery the night before the SATs, thinking I’d read a few chapters. I clearly remember looking at my clock and seeing it was 2 AM, and making the decision that it would be better to be tired for the test then be sitting there totally distracted wondering if Paul would survive… I Had To Know What Happened.
This is a list of my favorite mysteries, suspense books, thrillers and a cozy I flew through:
Les Liason Dangereuse by Laclos - I read it in college before I ever heard of it and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough
American gods by Neil Gaiman.
All 3 of the Scythe series. Originally tried to keep them in my car to read during slow moments but got so into them that I just read them back to back.
Anything Ellie Dean. War trauma on every page.
Midnight Library of course by Matt Haig, a tear jerker with a very active ending.
Now I am reading The Girl, The Cat and The Forest, another war tear jerker. It can be read in a day it is so good.
I just started my first Marie Lacrosse cause the covers are stunning and I love period war romance. It is called Storm over the Fields and it is almost 600 pages but it reads so smooth
Just polished off the Hunchback of the Notre Dame, again a 600 page brick but so fun to read. Takes a bit getting into though, it’s archaic and cynical.
Battle Royale
the book is massive and yet it felt so short when I read itAnything dan brown!
This one is either going to go over well or terribly for me but Fourth Wing and Iron Flame for me. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.
Is it literary genius? No. Is it an example of poetic and beautiful prose? No. Did the story have me hooked? Yes. Yes it did. When I first started Fourth Wing, I didn’t think I was going to like it but I got to chapter like 7 or 8 and then couldn’t put it down. I listen to audiobooks and I found myself putting my AirPods in every chance I got to listen for even just a little bit.
