So I finished, fourth wing last night and I’m totally disappointed, it’s the worst book I’ve read this year and one of the worst I’ve read in recent times, I read so many positive reviews about it that I expected a totally incredible story, nothing in the book works, the writing almost amateur( Wattapp says Hello!) character without personality, repetitive plot( I got sick of reading Violeta saying so much: I’m smaller and Brittle than everyone else) the feeling I had was that Rebecca Yarros intended to write a YA, but then because she wanted to write adult scenes (laughable by the way) changed the age of the characters to over twenty, without changing anything in the plot, all their attitudes and everything they do is as if they were 15 year old teenagers, nothing is original, the academy part sounds like a bad copy of Sabaa Tahir’s The Ember in the Ashes (it’s actually a great example of a well-written fantasy series), the dragons are a duller version of How to Train Your Dragon, the romance part is so childish and shameful, and the plot twist at the end was obvious from the beginning I know that most people loved the book and I respect that, but I would like to know if anyone else has a similar opinion.

She lost me from the very beginning. I was never given a good reason for this group of people to >! Send a large batch of their newly “of age” children through a gauntlet where most of them would die just so only a few would be left for dragons to pair with. It didn’t make any sense, especially when you learn later that if kids don’t get paired in their first year, they just hang out and try again!🫠 why did all of those other kids have to die??? IDK 🤷. I couldn’t understand why they didn’t just train everyone and let the dragons take their pick. The urgency and necessity of the gauntlet just doesn’t make any sense! If this war is so bad, why kill off what I assume are necessary soldiers?🙄 It also leads to the realization, once you learn the plot twist, of just how needlesly sadistic the people in power are, they know that literally NONE of it is necessary the only part I sort of enjoyed was the relationship between her and her dragons and that didn’t get showcased often enough to save the rest of the book (also I’ve read human/dragon bond better honestly, Naomi Novik’s temeraire books come to mind)!< I’ve honestly read too much excellent fan fiction to be overly impressed by this book. Booktok Recs are 0 for 3 right now.
