Its been April since I came back.
I always had a good time there, culture, people, food, nature, short term friends and some dating
Here I have high rent, no long term friends, non existant dating, it makes me always think about booking a ticket back, including all my friends saying they will go
Anyone have a similiar feeling?
Damn well you only live once… how you want to spend your time?
i traveled for years. now i have a family, kids. it’s a small window of time that you have this freedom. don’t waste it
The best option is avoiding the family / kids and just plowing (dating) for decades.
Or just meet a fellow nomad and don’t have kids ever 🙂
DINK. And maybe get a puppy and be Dual Income Loving Dog Owners.
The dream
I see what you did there.
That’s what my wife and I do. Only problem is that traveling with a dog really restricts where we can go. I’d love to go to Iceland or Australia but I’m not dealing with the quarantine process!
Everything else is pretty great though. We’re on a one-year visa in France now. A good travel partner makes things better IMO.
Well, the DILDO life isn’t for everyone, you know?
that sounds pretty lonely.
not to mention all the awkward meetup with cousins and friends who all have kids and you’re alone.
“Omg totally awks… better devote my life to raising a child for multiple decades to avoid the cringe.”
So your saying to have kids because ‘everyone else is’ and your not comfortable being alone with yourself and/or a partner?
Don’t give into the pressures of society.
I think about this everyday
Yeah, I had a similar feeling, so five years ago after my kids went to university and I got divorced, I left the best place in California and visited Thailand once. And then returned. And returned again. And am here most the time now … for the same reasons you mentioned. If you want to make it happen, put a plan in place and start working on it. You can do it. 👍
I know how you feel but I’ll also say it’s one thing to vacation in a place and a whole other thing to need to balance work, visa shenanigans, etc. while you’re staying there. And then explain to the girl you’re dating you can’t or won’t actually stay long term
I do agree. Visa is holding me back making me just visit it
can you confirm there is no corn in thighland
Whats corn
it’s time to spin that wheel of mythicality
Get the Thailand METV, that will get you 6 months with extensions if done right. Then 3 months in Vietnam with their new evisa, and 3 months in Malaysia. That’s a year easy. Could then go another 3 months in Taiwan. Maybe that would give you a better indication if you wanted to invest more heavily in a long term visa once the tourist high wears off.
i went to Bangkok & Phuket about 15 yrs ago with a friend. ironically met my wife to be over email on the same trip on match (10yrs later sadly she is now my x), ever since i have sd Phuket is where i will retire & i too think about it frequently.
this was about 1 yr after the big tsunami i believe and our hotel had a new housing development portion that was built during the renovation of the island. we were fortunate enough to be in one and had an amazing 2 story, 4 bedroom house with infinity pool, on a golf course…it was inexpensive and almost too ridiculous for just the two of us (most of the time) for 2 weeks.phuket has something for everyone and coming from a larger, lively, tourist destination city in the us, with tons to do, i was surprised by the opposite extremes within the same 10 mile radius. as in, Phuket is as crazy as you want, and as relaxing and tame as you want, at any time, in the same area.
sure, plenty of places are relaxing, and you can have a good time out if you want, but few offer these experiences to these levels, in my opinion. combine that with the fact that it is also located in an amazing city/country with wonderful people, great food, tons of culture, plenty to do and see, safe if not involved in things you should not be, affordable, beautiful…i could go on and on…and you have my favorite place and where i will retire, whatever and whenever that means…phuket rocks!
Yeah, I feel that way too sometimes. There’s always future return trips. For now, try to find what you appreciate about where you are. Be grateful for the time you had there and the time you get to have here. And hey, if it really sucks, just head back to where you were last happy.
Exactly, I can always book a trip otherwise isues will follow. Im also getting therapy to be more satisfied
Most people feel the same about anywhere they go on vacation, escaping reality? Even people in Thailand think the same when they go to another location for holiday….
Thats why I try to focus on present, and see it more as a second hub. Feel i also feel like this to not struggle with business
Live in one place long enough humans will always want to escape elsewhere long term or temporarily to get away from the pressures of where they reside permanently….always nice to go on vacation to recharge
Might do that once my business is setup again, living life on tons of savings really sucks (big exit but no income)
go to thailand and travel around SEA, dont just escape but use this paradise as an opportunity to solve your inner conflicts. go to mediation centres, farm communities, vipassana meditation. Usually just socializing helps a lot. i live in germany and im done with this life. i need a reset. western world is kinda dead to me. especially germany. and other anti social, high anxiety countries. its not a pleasent life if you dont know how to handle it. but at least theres still parts of the world that help to heal easier. digital nomad lifestyle might be just more suitable for you. dont force yourself to adjust to the western world.
Yes. Guess where I am ;)
I’ve been 4 times and think about it literally every day. I feel you.
Yes, I feel it on a daily basis :( Pm if you wanna chat.
PM!
lol glad it’s just not me who feels the same way I spent New Year there still thinking about it
It sucks that Thai elite visa is so unaffordable now. Previously it was worth a consideration for peace of mind if you wanted to live there long term.
Based on the crowds of Russians and new language schools in my neighborhood, ed visas are still widely available.
If I could go back in time, I would’ve saved the $17k I spent on the elite visa and stuck with those.
Ed visas are 1 year only and they are cracking down on fake ones
$25k is unaffordable? It’s pretty cheap compared to the strict income requirements of many other countries.
Plus, it filters out suspicious farangs. If you’re a good person with slightly above average IQ—you can find a way if you really want to stay here.
For a third world country? Yes.
how many other “third world” countries are there with lining up to live in that offers a better deal?
Income requirements are just that. You aren’t actually handing over money. But for an elite visa that money is gone. 15 year elite visa is $70k now, and you’ll never see that money again + the benefits are worse than before as an additional fuck you. The 20 year visa basically doesn’t even exist anymore (invite only and $140k lol). Very glad I got my 20 year for $28k (almost same price as a 5 year now) before all this stupid shit happened, but I bet they’ll backpedal on it.
They will retract it im sure, give it time
Doubt they’ll backpedal anytime soon. They’ll prob make enough off of the 5yr for 900k and sell the 20year one to Chinese mafia or shady but rich people. Win win.
