Since you know Spanish: Buenos Aires & CDMX. Medellín is also popular for DNs but I wasn’t a fan and don’t know if you’ll get much personal growth.

Honorable mention for Brazil (Rio is more fun but Sao Paolo is safer); depending on how good your Spanish is you might be able to pick up some Portuguese quite quickly.

Mexico then Thailand. The order is reversed today due to the shit exchange rate and increased cost of living. 2021 Mexico was much better than Thailand. YMMV

I don’t need great internet so my faves are -

    • Laos - super chill, beautiful, Buddhist temples, lovely people and amazing food with a French influence.

    • Ethiopia. Addis abba is quite cosmopolitan, lovely people with great fashion sense, the Ethiopian landscape and light is so beautiful, you really feel like you’re in the cradle of humanity, it all just feels ancient. Food average. Friendly traveler scene because there aren’t too many tourists.

    • Indonesia - stunning scenery, genuine and kind people, language not too difficult to learn. Food can be mixed, not v healthy.

If money is an issue, Thailand or Vietnam.

Even if money is not an issue, both are just as incredible
