Even if I’m alteady happy with my current headphones, I always like to try some new stuff, even more if it’s cheap and even more if it can be modded (the funniest part imo). Plus it will be my first planar pair (never tried planars, only dynamics and an e-stat).

What do you think about this headphones at this price? Have you ever had experiences with both V1 and V2 versions?

Peace✌🏻

I don’t know, I stopped with those 2. They say there’s no “endgame” but I’m satisfied for now.

I’ve owned some expensive Grados before which are love it or hate it. I personally love Grados so maybe that’s where I’ll go next.

I could try to give you some feedback in the near future (couple of days maybe) as i’m currently waiting for a pair of Hifiman HE-x4 and i will compare them to my HD599. I think 598 and 599 sound about the same if i’m remembering correctly.

I have both of these headphones. I think it is a side-grade. They both sound great and each does some things a little better than the other. For the price I think it’s definitely worth it to try out some planars though.

Also, both of these headphones sound so pleasant on a tube amp if you have one.

Planars sound… different. They do some things better than dynamic headphones and struggle with others. My own step into the planar world was the Monolith M560, which I have enjoyed a lot, but they’re not perfect. I think they HE400 is on about the same level, but not identical.

I grabbed mine on Aliexpress during 11.11 for 55€ aswell.

Recieved them today and they work perfectly, 100% original, with serial number and QC pass card. The card says 11 of August 2023.

Its a gamble if they die after 15 days (we got 15 days free returns on Spain after recieving a package) but so far so good.

I might mod them and add a strap headband to improve comfort but for 55€ its a bargain.

Had those K702 (Austrian pair, which is kinda rare nowadays). Personally I think they have an unique sound, but not for everyone. They’re spacious and detailed, but also very bass light, upper mids/treble focused and somewhat “distant” sounding. Most of the people will be happier with other headphones, but maybe a 5% of them would call this their favourite one.

Yeah definitely they are going to be preference/use case specific. For my purposes I think they are probably the best choice - reference headphones for composing and mixing classical and orchestral score.

While I love the sound Hifiman provides, durability is an issue for me. The headband on my edition x broke a bit after the warrant expired. RIP

Went to the DT1990 and they’re built like a tank.

More natural timbre and tonality, less grainy and boosted treble, it paired better with tubes. It has less bass extension but it feels more natural to my ears. I can’t justify the price difference in any way, DT880 costs 144€ and DT1990 500€.
