I’d ask to see a picture of it on a timegrapher. If it looks good on a timegrapher, it’s an OK deal. It’s such a specialty item that the quality of the refurbishment is 80% of the price. It’s hard to find one of those in such great shape.
It’s a beauty!
The dial is a bit crooked. I’d say around the mid to high $500’s would be a good price. (My mentor and I restore dials and price vintage watches like that Hamilton)
Yeah, $550 is about right and probably at the ceiling.
Refurbished or not, I love the look of this watch
Same. Very unique
The movement looks right. See the little screws holding the jewels in place? Those were used from 1924-1929. The jewels used after 1929 were friction fit.
As others have said, the dial looks a little sus. That orange color is a little too vibrant for what I’d expect to see on an original dial. I’d ask about it.
Case looks right. The price is probably on the high end for what I’d be looking to pay. That said, if the movement had been serviced, that’s worth something.
This is really helpful (and fascinating info too)! Thank you
Damn, that’s a pretty watch
I’ve personally never seen a square watch that I liked, until I saw this picture… Gonna have to go hunting lol
Unrelated question incoming. If this watch had a 6 would it look like the 9 upside down, the 5 closed, or something different?
What year is it?
Dang that’s a cool watch
I went down a square Hamilton rabbit hole not too long ago for my wedding watch. Is this from an Etsy restorer? I was wondering about the value for money as well. They certainly look nice tho.
Yeah, he sells everything on both ebay and etsy. From my conversations on here today, it sounds like it’s about $100 overpriced, especially since the dial isn’t original. If you haven’t found your wedding watch yet, I’ve had great success chatting with u/Reasonetc today about different vintage watches.
Something doesn’t check out here…
High quality photos, caseback open, relevant details in post.
I had to check 3 times to make sure I was actually in r/watches
